All our dogs now have dry, scratchy pads on their feet, and I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced this and what they've done. It's very dry out here in Colorado, and I noticed that Ripley's pads have gotten scratchy (they were velvety soft when we got her from Oklahoma two months ago), along with the two big boys. Ripley has slept with us since she got here, but with her scratchy paws (and the fact that she kicks in her sleep), she might not stay in her coveted "warm spot" until remedied.
I can't imagine it's the food, as they're all eating different types of food, and Ripley's eating the same food she did before we got her.
I've used Bag Balm on the dogs before, but only in places they can't lick. I don't know that it's harmful if they lick at it, but I haven't taken my chances. I also tried putting doggie boots on them when they went outside, but even when the boots DID stay on, it didn't seem to help.
Any suggestions for what I can do for them?
(P.S. because of our house's design, using 'normal' sized humidifiers won't work...we need a full-house one, and we can't afford that right now. )
