Last couple of days I have noticed a few black fleas on Reuben. He has been on the prescription flea drops since the beginnings of Spring. I know that there is a pill for fleas that they can take also. However my vet only offered the drops to me. I did not question the pill because I just assumed the drops would do the job. Any pros & cons on the subject?

I have used both Program (pill) and Frontline. I prefer Frontline because it kills fleas and ticks. With Program, it takes a while to get in the system and start to work. Also the flea has to bite the dog and I don't want that. Frontline kills the fleas within 24 hours of application. I might see a flea every now and then, but not many. Advantage also works pretty well too for fleas but not ticks. Good luck.

I found that bombing the house with a flea bomb that contains Precor improves the effectiveness of Frontline or Advantage.

A lot of people don't like these foggers, but if you air the house out thoroughly, you shouldn't have any problems. I use them & my mother with heart/breathing problems doesn't notice any difference afterwards. I would think she would if they were very bad.

I'm not a big proponent of poison chemicals, but...

Hey Penny's Aunt! What a great way to gage if that fogger works. "Well, if mom isn't in a gasmask when I get home,I guess it's OK"

I got bit on the lip by a flea on Monday. It looked liked a nasty sore for 3 days and itched horribly! Death to all Fleas!<IMG SRC="http://dachsie.org/ubb/cwmsmilies/cwm4.gif" border=0>

Hi Sue and Rue! Otis prefers the Frontline in this tick and bug infested state of Minnesota! We use it on our Malamute, too and he has not had a tick since. We have also been able to avoid the dreaded fleas. I have to apply the Frontline until first frost. Good luck!

Yes, we use Mom as the mine canary! If she isn't lying on the floor, gasping for air, we figure the chemicals aren't TOO bad!
