View Full Version : My baby is in Pain!

Roscoe was neutered yesterday. He seems to be in a lot of pain -much more so than Rudy was after his. He shrieks loudly when I have to pick him up, even though I do it very very gingerly. I think he has only peed once since we came home yesterday and no poops at all. He only wants to sit in his bed and have me pet his head. He did eat and drink a little bit though.

I am very worried about my little man. All rays are greatly appreciated.

I just called the vet. They said to give it 24 more hours. They said that just like people, some dogs have lower pain thresholds than others and that the crying is fairly common for a certain time period after the surgery.

I think the anesthetic might have affected him more than it did with Rudy too, so he is taking longer to get back to his old self. I really hope he's doing better when I get home this evening.

I put him inside the x-pen in his comfy bed and put Rudy outside the pen, but still barricaded in the kitchen with Roscoe with his blanket so they are together, but Rudy can't bother Roscoe's incision.

Rudy was very glad to see Roscoe home. He kept licking him last night and sniffed him all over. This morning he tried to get Roscoe to play, but of course Roscoe was not about to get out of his bed. I really hope he feels better soon. I'm still worried about him.

Krista,

Poor Roscoe! Otis sends tons of RAYZZZZZ.

How old is he? When I picked up Otis, they offered three days of pain pills, which I declined. I said I didn't want him doped up. The vet tech said she found that it actually made them more spunky. I said I'd wait and see and then Otis was fine, but is this an option for Roscoe?

Let us know how he is doing.

Poor little Roscoe. I'm so used to hearing everyone say that they're little boys bounced back even more quickly than their little girls, that I never would have expected your little guy to be so uncomfortable.

I hope he's feeling better soon.

Hi Krista,

I hope Roscoe is feeling better when you get home. It is important to remember not to baby them too much when they are acting this way. They are very smart and soon learn that if they let out a little whimper they will get more attention. Those were words of wisdom from our first aid class and from our trainer. Of course it easier to say those things than it is to live them. Monitor the peeing and pooping watch for signs of an infection and stay in touch with your vet.

Sending out more rays now,

Tom and the boys (Frank and Tanner)

Hey Krista, I am so sorry Roscoe has been suffering a reaction to the neutering. Poor little guy. As you know from Rudy, this is the exception, not the general way things go. Hope he was better after resting today.
Let us know,
Roxane and crew

He seems to be doing a little better today. I didn't hear any crying this morning and he was walking around a bit more -though not with his usual happy gait.

He ate and went potty thank goodness, and he was able to roll over for a belly rub.

I think the he was still doped up yesterday morning from the drugs, but he seemed more like himself last night and this morning. Those are good signs, and his parts seemed less red and swollen too, so hopefully he is on his way to healing up.

Thanks for the rays! They are working!

I'm glad you're baby is getting better. It's so heart breaking and you feel so helpless when they are suffering. Keep up the good work. I'm sure your baby will be as good as new soon!! <IMG SRC="http://dachsie.org/ubb/cwmsmilies/cwm30.gif" border=0>

So glad to hear that he is doing much better. I forgot to mention that when my Mom brought her dog home from being neutered he cried and howled the whole way home. The vet said that can happen to any dog that was under anesthesia and that he wasn't necessarily in any pain, just a little confused.

More healing and "get well" rayz on their way from me, Mark & Willi
