I noticed some blood on a toy this evening, I thought it was a tooth or something. Later he was licking his leg and paw. I did not think of it to check, he always licks this paws, but then I found this.

He has licked the hair off one spot and the joint. Legs look the same, just this sore. It does not seem to hurt him and is doesn't slow him down, just lick, lick lick. Another seen something like this?

Vet appointment at 12:45 saturday.

David, I hope it's just a little hot spot. You should be at the vet just about now--let us know the diagnosis!

Hoping for the best!

Vet said it looked like an bad abrasion. Now I have to figure from what.

I am wondering if he got his leg caught in his creat wires. Might have to get him an x-pen after all. That or another creat with stronger wires.

Vet gave us a bottle of STA. Dunno what is in it but, Aug did not like it put on the sore. I must have burned.

Maybe it IS an abrasion, but it looks like a LICK GRANULOMA to me (IMHO). That's exactly what they look like, & where they usually show up.

These can turn into frustrating MONSTERS! I understand that the vets don't really know what causes them, but the dog suddenly won't leave them alone, & they keep after them, licking constantly. Sometimes they get so bad that the nerve to the area has to be cut to provide the only permanent relief.

Do everything you can to keep his mouth away from it & prevent it from becoming a habit. Don't let ANYONE tell you that the licking will help heal it!

Kibby wants to send Augie some healing rayz too. Tess says if you keep worrying your sore leg, your dad might put a lampshed on your head...no fun, specially when you eat and drink! Rena

Hi David and Augie,

Sorry to hear about the sore spot. I see from your photo that Augie is still wearing the collar to keep him away form the Christmas tree. Any chance he is is licking his paw because of stress about not being able to get to an area of his home?

Frank hopes Augie's spot clears up soon and that the hair grows back. Frank has a spot on the top of his tail that is about an inch from it's base that hasn't had hair for over five months now. The vet did a scraping and didn't fee it is any thing we need to worry about. Frank wants to know if Augie's hair doesn't grow back would he be interested in becoming a founding member of the hair club for dachshunds?

Best wishes,

Tom and the boys (Frank and Tanner)

He just would not be a member, he might be the president!

It seems to be better, I think he got it caught somewhere, pen maybe. Might have to get one with thicker bars. He is getting stronger and stronger. Two of the bars are bent now. Guess Santa is going to add something else to the list.
