I've heard a lot about this brand.
I currently have Charlie on 'Medi-Cal' kibble from the Vet's office. He is growing fine, nice shiny coat, eats well and most importantly has regular firm small stools - usually twice a day but sometimes three.
I've been reading about other brands so when mine runs out I can continue or gradually change when it gets lower.
One thing that concerns me with Wellness brand is that it states not only that your dog will likely have MORE stools but also the VOLUME would be more too! It also said they would have 'softer' stools...... Have you found this to be true?
My Vet always said that as long as the food is producing Firm stools 2/day then the food is doing it's job. However, if he's going and going then he's 'pooping' out all the fillers etc. of some lessor brands and that's not good. Because of the Veggie content of Wellness I guess you can expect more, but lots more?
I'd LOVE to hear from those of you that are using it or have used it in the past.:flush: :flush:

and they like it. I was concerned about the increased stool volume, too. They might go 3-4 times a day and it is soft, but well formed (not a lot different in consistency from when they were on Pedigree and maybe one more stool a day). Since they use puppy pads, it's not a problem if they go an extra time a day. They have no stomach problems with it, and the stools are not messy at all.
I'm sure the fiber from the fruits and vegetables does help keep the stools "regular" although it sounds like your food is doing fine, too! It might be the richness of the meats that adds to the stools as well.

We use the Wellness Fish/Sweet potato and the boys/girl just love it. They go two or three times per day and their stool is just right. I've not used any other dog food brand in well over a year now - they won't eat anything but the Wellness. We're pleased with it and the boys get 1/2 c. in the a.m. and p.m. Holly gets more than that as she is still a little underweight.

I've been using Wellness Super5Mix Chicken for two of my dogs since early June and have been pleased. Among the kibbles I have used for my dogs in the past few years -- Innova, Innova Sr., Canidae, Canidae Platinum and Wellness -- I have seen only minor differences in stool volume. My dogs poop 2-3 times a day on Wellness, but they can eat slightly less than Innova or Canidae and maintain the proper weight.
I'm surprised Wellness would make such a statement about more stools and larger volume. Where did you see that? I couldn't find it on their web site.

from their site...
Q: I've changed my dog to your Wellness product. Since then his stool has changed in volume and frequency. Is this something that I should be nervous about?
A: Normally, when the diet changes, the stool frequency and volume may change drastically. After about 6-8 weeks, the stool volume and frequency will stabilize. Normal frequency is 2 times per day. With Wellness, because of the extra amount of roughage in the diet, frequency may be 3 per day. Also, expect the stool volume to be greater than before.
Since Wellness products are made with whole grains, they contain a lot of natural fiber, which is good for digestion and also prevents cancer. Insoluble fiber is not digested, but excreted. It also absorbs excess water, hence the volume of stool is large. It is good for the dog, as it keeps all toxins out of the body.
All of the dry products contain whole grains; barley, oats, flaxseed and brown rice. They are not refined and the nutrients are not taken out of the grains. This fiber provides a normal healthy stool.

I used to feed this to Chief, he loved it, one of the reasons I prefered this to other brands is because it is BAKED rather than extruded.

Well, 3 times a day certainly isn't a lot more. Heck, he's just a tiny dog not a lab so how much volume can there be......
Thanks again for the info. I do think I'd like to try it once his Medi-Cal is running lower which will be in about 3 weeks. It sounds really good for them as far as the ingredients and I also like the idea it is baked too.:bounce:

I went to our natural pets store yesterday and the owner said that the size of bits in Wellness puppy food is big and our doxie may not like it. She recommended Canidae for the reason of smaller size. I opened the bad and they are as large as our bulldogs WD food.

I didn't think the Welness was big...Chief didn't either :)
