Gary wanted me to post this question regarding yawning. EVERY time that he rubs Rudy's belly Rudy lets out a big yawn - it's so cute;) Just wondering if your dachsie does this too:asleep:

If JOEY thinks he will get rewarded with a nifty treat, he will yawn on command. He will also sneeze and take a bow.
Too bad I can't get him to come when I call him.

All three of mine yawn....belly rubs, (of course) when I lay on the floor with them and do not play! (I need a break too) When I sing to them they yawn, when hubby piles them on his lap and pets all three. They yawn when they have to wait for something, on car rides or excited...they make me yawn! I have no idea what all the yawning is about. Guess Im an exciting mom!

Augie has a gator mouth. The crocodial hunter would have a time closing this dachsie's trap shut!

He is so cute when he does because his very long bubble gum pink tongue comes out!

yawn. Not all the time though.
They really do it the most when they are getting rocked in my lap and then they yawn and then lay their head down on my chest, as if to say night night.:D

Trenyce yawns when it's getting close to "go to bed" time. She kind of opens one eye when snuggling on Daddy as if to say, "I'm not asleep yet, just a little longer before I gotta go to bed." Then she usually does a big stretch and snuggles in again. Yeah, I love that long pink tongue too!
It's contagious, so once in a while, I'll see Ruben yawn at bedtime too.:raz: Poor baby, if he had his way he'd never be tired enough to sleep! There's too much out there that he might miss.

Miss and Zeke both will yawn at bedtime and in the morning or if they are just getting up from a nap.

Usually yawn when they wake up and streach and make that cute little "eeoow" noise.

:D Rocky and his bassett sister, Bayley, "wrestle" each other and when Rocky gets all wound up, he will yawn (with a small whine with it) right in Bayley's face! He yawns in the morning when I pick him up out of the bed and place him on the floor. He will stretch and yawn, doing that whining thing. It is the funniest thing! His human dad calls him a little girl..haha:lol:

The noise Frankie makes when she yawns is so cute. Sometimes when I'm smooching her on the face, she will yawn. Then I tell her she's rude and continue smooching! :blue: :bounce: :dizzy:

(I'm so glad that I can post pics now!)
Neither does any yawning with their belly rubs. That's Dutch's favorite thing, though- and his tail wags so fast that it could be used as a weapon! This picture ^ is just a sleepy yawn- I get plenty of those out of him.
I think that non-sleepy yawning in dogs is usually considered a stress reaction- maybe being on their backs makes them feel a little nervous? Or maybe they're just so comfortable that it makes them sleepy... Aren't puppy yawns cute, though?

That is a yawn! Mine don't yawn when I rub their tummies, but Cash gets so relaxed he's almost fallen off of the couch! Luckily I saw him start to slide and grabbed him. Miller's a tail wagger when his tummy is rub. He gets "happy tail" at first and then it slows down as he relaxes.

Mine have two different yawns. There's the sleepy yawn, when they're ready for their nap. And, then there's the excited yawn, when their getting attention. That is the over-exaggerated, super wide-mouthed, noisy ones. For some reason, when they have these yawns, they like to put something in between their jaw while they yawn. I'll be playing with Buddy Lee, and the next thing I know, I'll be staring at his tonsils, because he'll yawn and put my face in his mouth.
But, I guess the cutest is Molly's sleepy yawn. If we're laying together and I get sleepy and begin to yawn, she'll yawn, too. It's as if she's saying, "I know what you mean, let's go to bed!"

buddy most definately yawns when getting a belly, or butt rub. you might have seen the length of his tongue (in brag book) and it litterally just rolles out of his mouth. sometimes we can make him "catch" our yawn. he almost always does the eeeeoowww noise when he yawns...geez all this talk about yawning is making ME yawn!!!! ever notice what a funny word that is? Yawn. Heh.

Arnie doesn't yawn when we rub his belly--BUT in the morning--I can make him yawn by yawning---every time! If I yawn and he is looking at me, he "catches":sleep004: it.

Every morning before I go to the gym, when i take Abby out of her crate to sleep with daddy in the big bed...she does a little yoga, (downward facing dog), and lets out a big loud yawn. Every time...it's so cute.

Yes, Rudy and Penny always yawn when I rub their tummies. They are always wanting to yawn in my face, sometimes they finish with a sneeze in my face :oogle: it's so gross but it's funny too...

My lil girl doxie (Gretel) always yawns when I'm petting and praising her.:0210: I think yawning is a way that she expresses happiness/love.
Too wierd ...! I don't think my family would be impressed if I yawned my "I love you's".
Also, my cats both squint to show affection (kind of a dreamy eyes-half-open expression).
I think our pets are constantly training us ... considering the way we strive to pick-up on all their little mannerisms and gestures. LOL
