Yesterday my husband & I had field maintenance out at the ball park. Reuben went with us and ran around the ball field while we cut grass & cleaned up. He was HAPPY AS A LARK!!! When we were done, we went home and got ready for the high school foot ball game. We were gone for 3.5 hours. We got home and saw that Reuben was all swollen up in his face. His snout looked like a chipmunk and his eyes were like slits. I freaked out!! My 10 yr old son busted out crying, what was the matter with him. We had never had this problem before. Everything else seemed fine about him other than he was scratching and rubbing his snout & eyes. My daughter & I took him to the emergency vet. They said that he must have gotten stung or bit by some type of insect. All other signs were fine. They gave him two shots and instructed me to give him benedryl every 12 hours for 8 days. The swelling has gone down alot. He kinda looks like the SPUD MCkenzie dog w/a long body for the Budweiser commercials. Today is Reuben's 1st year Birthday. One that we will talk about for years to come! Whew!!!

day! The bees are terrible this year in MN. I think Otis was stung above his eye. He had a bump next to his eyebrow and his eye was swollen--poor baby. It was his 6 mo. birthday. A friend's cat was also stung and swelled up like Reu and had to go to the vet. Wish we could give Reu a hug--those nasty bees! Glad he's doing better.

My pup has been stung 4 times in a month.

Keep the liquid Benedryl handy, & write on the bottle what the dosage is, for future reference.

I wonder why they wanted you to give it for 8 days? Never heard of that!

Thanks for the well-wishes!! Reuben's swelling has gone completely down now. That was really scary for us. I should have come straight to you guys for advice on what was the matter with him. I just kinda lost it when I saw him. Anyway, I did get a picture of "Mr. Pufkin" for the scrapbook. <IMG SRC="http://dachsie.org/ubb/cwmsmilies/cwm42.gif" border=0>
