View Full Version : switching between different "flavors" of the same brand

Do you have to gradually change the food if it is within the same brand? I am feeding Natural Balance and initially Nina ate it up. But now she's picking at it again. I got a trial of the lamb and potato and she seems to like it better though I only gave her five pieces. So I'm thinking she may eat more if it is the lamb flavor.

Did any one have problems switching flavors instantly?

Also she tried the sausage type Natural Balance and loved that as well.
Anyone have bad or good experiences with this type of food?

And if I were to substitue to this sausage type of food do I remove the wet or the dry?

Thank you!

The dry formulas are similar enough that I think you could switch without trouble if she is already picking at her old food. I switched by mixing with my group ... they didn't seem to notice the difference. As far as the rolls are concerned, there are instructions on them for for if you feed it alone or with dry. I would continue to feed dry and use the roll for the canned. I have one I want to try, but am waiting for Stinker to decide what she doesn't like before I get into the next food category.

I feed mine pups the Natural Balance sausage type roll in the mornings, and then their dry lamb formula at night. I, too, found out that they prefer the lamb and potato. In fact, they like anything with lamb in it.

There is no directions as to how much of this roll you're supposed to feed a puppy. Can I assume double as the kibble is? Nina is just not eating her kibble and is even starting to turn her nose against this sausage, so I'm trying everything to get her to eat something! Your help is MUCH appreciated!

I cut up the sausage into tiny squares and feed Juney (the mini) 1/4 cup in the morning. At night, I feed her 1/4 cup of the kibble at night. When Juney was younger, I had trouble with her eating. This went on for the longest time. (Its like young kids will want to play so much that they don't want to eat).

Finally, I started removing her food after 20 - 30 minutes. Then I put her next food down at the next meal. After going 24 hours without food for a couple of days, she started eating both meals. :)

If she regresses, I always warn her that the food is going away, and she comes running to eat. :D

Thanks! I'll try this! I took her food away this morning after her not eating for an hour and penned her so there were no other distractions. I'll see how hungry she is tonight. I'm sure she'll eat then and it's more lamb! We'll see.
