View Full Version : OH NO! A LUMP!

I just found it this afternoon! It is on his back about half way down the spine. At first I though he jumped off somewhere and blew a disk or something, (he has no fear of anything) but I have been so careful of that. He has no pain when I touch it, move it.. ect. He has not slowed down at all, he has more energy than I do!

The lump is just off of the spine and it moves with the skin. Can a 16 week old pup have cysts already?!?! The guy next door has 2 dogs, he said that after they got their shots, lumps appeared like this. He had his shots 2 weeks ago and I just noticed this today! Is this too early? Late? He did move around a bit while getting the shots. Has anyone else had this happen to their pup?!?! I was going to rush him to the vet hospital, but I think that that would be over reacting.

I am just worried! Other people think my wife and I are nutz for loving a dog so much. Sorry, I guess I am venting too.... Has anyone else had this happen?

Tessie had a lump on her tail at 4 months (16 weeks.) Because it kept getting larger and would not go down, our vets (2 of them) decided it should come off. It was a benign histioblastoma, but was about marble-sized and might have interfered with development of her tail ... always better to go to the vet and be safe! Good Luck!

Some dogs do get a raised lump from shots. It shrinks back down a few days after forming from what I've heard.

Also could be a lipoma -fatty cyst. These are generally harmless and many people just watch them under their vets direction and only remove them if they grow. I'd place a call to the vet or a visit and ask about it. With such a young pupper, I'm suyre it is nothing serious.

I agree with Rena & Krista,

That it is most likely very treatable . . . let us know what the Vet says.

Our Annie got a lump just like this after getting a shot--it was a cyst that developed from the shot, and it migrated down her body until it finally disappeared. Definitely have it checked out, but it's likely this is what it is, and nothing to worry about. Good luck!

Penny developed a finger-tip-sized lump on her back when she got her very first vaccination. It has never gone away, but neither has it ever changed. We figure that it can serve as a visual ID mark. If it ever starts to change or grow, it will be removed.

As in people, at least 9 out of 10 lumps are nothing serious.

I spoke with the vet, he said that the lump is prob caused by the shots! (daddy is happy)

Thank you for all the support! http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/smile.gif

Just an update, the lump is totaly gone.

Looks like it was just a reaction from the shots.
