View Full Version : Eczema Problem

Dudley from Paris

Dudley is a year old and has had eczema since he was one week old. He has had two types of treatments, both worked but a month later the problem resurfaced.

He has lost a lot of hair on his back. The vet says this is a cronic problem that he will have his whole life. I am not ready to accept that.

Someone suggested a wheat free diet (know of a good one?), another suggested I bring him to a dermatologist.

Any other suggestions out there?

Thanks,
Dudley's Mom

Hi Dudley's mom,

I have no experience with the skin problem you and Dudley are dealing with, but I am curious . . . is the Vet one sho specializes in such problems? If the answer is no, then my advice would be what I would do . . . find one!

BTW . . . is Dudley doing better with his issue, since moving to Paris, of being afraid to go outside?

Hi Dudley's Mom,

Though I'm not experienced with this, I DO know that Wienergal is with her dachsie Peaches. Peaches's problem has been with her for just about her whole life also. She's now 12 yrs. old or so. I can't remember what remedy Wienergal used, but it was trial and error, but finally she got it under control. HEY WIENERGAL, HELP!

I'll try to go back and look up her info for you. It IS true that diet can play a role. What do they feed their dogs in France? I know of some great dog food here, but I'm afraid they do not ship it out of this country.<IMG SRC="http://dachsie.org/ubb/cwmsmilies/cwm36.gif" border=0> Also, try finding dog food rich in Omega 3 and 6. Good luck!

I found some info. Follow these steps: (1)stay here in General Health Concerns. (2) at the bottom of this page, scroll down to SHOW TOPICS FROM THE LAST YEAR (hop to). (3) Go to PAGE 4. (4) Click on topic ALLERGIC HAIR LOSS (2 pages long, pg. 2 has good info). Wienergal and Twix discuss this. Wienergal mentions drugs TEMERIL-P and CEPHALEXIN. I also know that Wienergal feeds her dachsie INNOVA, I feed mine that too. Their website is www.naturapet.com (http://www.naturapet.com) It's ALL human-grade ingredients. NO CHEMICALS, BY-PRODUCTS. They just may have it in France, if not, maybe something similar. Stay away from CORN and WHEAT. Hope this can help some.http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/smile.gif

Hi again,

I know from your email that Dudley is doing better, but not over the fear of going outside . . .

It occurred to me, and maybe someone else on the board knows, could the 2 issues be related? Nerousness=skin rashes in hoomans, sometimes.

I wonder if Mark may have something there. I ran across something somewhere about the artificial preservatives being suspected in causing hyperactivity & aggression in dogs. If it can do that, maybe it can cause some nervousness, too.

Then I saved an e-mail on dog seizures & hair loss. Check it out at http://v2vsquare.com/jordemm/dogfood/htm

The book he mentions might provide some interesting reading, too: Foods Pets Die For: The Shocking Facts About Pet Food by Ann Martin (1997)
