Oscar went to vet yesterday, poor little guy has the start of an ear infection. Anyway, I asked for a nail trim while we there. He's becoming increasing worse for nail trims, never growls or bites, just keeps pulling away and you know it makes him nervous. They were only able to trim about half of his nails before they gave up. Last time they only trimmed 2 nails. So, later I was looking at feet to see which nails were trimmed, and they cut one that was already short and it had bleed. I was so mad because the nail was already short, that they should have known better then to cut it. Do I need to do anything to take of that nail?

Oh! Sorry to hear about the nail trauma. Dachsie's hate having their feeties messed with, espcially by strangers with clipper!

I'd watch the nail, but if the dog can reach and lick it clean then it should be ok. Watch for infection, and hold his paw some to make sure it's not hot.

Wotan had a cracked nail once and it had to be completely cut off at the quick. He bled and cried, but it healed nicely.

Don't let pupper out into the dirt to soon!

Healing frito rayzzz your way sends Wotan!

It's never too late to get a pupper used to having his feet handled. I do it in the evening when Shilo is lying on the floor, half asleep. I rub her tummy, & she rolls over on her back. I rub her chest & her legs. Then I start massaging her toes: I have a finger underneath between the pads, & am massaging the tops. If this is a problem for Oscar, get some cheese & cut it into 1/4" cubes & go back to massaging the toes.

One little piggy here (give a cheese cube)
And another little piggy here (cheese cube)
And look! Here's another little piggy in the middle (cheese cube).

You get the idea.

Once he is okay with toe massages, & he needs his nails cut again... (Hey, about the short nail: accidents happen, he may have jumped at exactly the wrong second)...anyway, he goes to get a nail trim again, take your cheese cubes with you.

One little nail cut (cheese cube)
And another little nail cut (cheese cube)

And so on. It may not work miracles, but it sure can't hurt. Unless you use LARGE cheese cubes.

(Penny: YEAH! LARGE cheese cubes! That's what I like! Real big chunks!")
