I am not sure if this has been posted before but here it is. Buddy has found the cats litter box. He thinks it is full of tasty treats just for him. I have put the litter box where he can no longer get it but I do have some concerns. Does anyone know if eating the litter and poo will make him sick? Both the cats are very healthy but is there anything that they can pass on to Buddy that I should be looking out for? And does the litter itself pose a health risk for him? After he ate the "stuff" he had alot of stinky, stinky poo's himself.

Eewww, eeww, yucky poo! I hate it when they do this! My guys love kitty poop treats, but we now have the litter pan in a "kitty condo" cage, which the cats can jump into, but the dogs can't. Unless the kitties have intestinal parasites, the worst the dachsies will get is poo breath and stinky poop. However, the litter could cause a blockage if they eat too much of it, especially if it's the clay litter. We switched to the pelleted plant-based stuff (Feline Pine; Cat Country is good too) because it works better and is healthier for the cats (no dust), and probably is less likely to cause a blockage if the dogs eat it, which ours do occasionally. They seem to think the pellets are little treats. We try not to spill any, but they always manage to find some. So far it hasn't caused a problem. Oh, it's also flushable in small amounts, which is good if you have a septic tank, as we do.

Hi:
Funny this should have come up yesterday. Working on a miniture dutch door for The Cat House kept me from replying.
SandyLynn is absolutely correct. About a year ago there was a flurry of articles about the clumping clay litter and the possible blockage it could cause in _cats_.
Greta, the chubby, could not get into the cats' private quarters. New love, Baylea, could. She is that much smaller.
Aside from the litter box we also have sufficient room for cats' food and water.
We spent 3 days constructing and hanging the new door. We felt it was that important.
Hope you find _your_ solution soon,
Roxane

In our house we call them "Almond Rocas", the canine treat. I am trying to train my pup to not eat them by sprinkling (heck, pouring) Tabasco sauce on them. But my previous dog would vomit the whole thing, so be sure to set the "bait" outside if you try it. My new pup just wipes her face on the grass & stands in the wading pool to get a drink. I think this one has a cast-iron stomach.
