Can one puppy go through?
Remember when I told all of you that Ruben first looked like a black and tan, then a sable, then he started to turn into a beautiful red? Well, get this, he's just over 4 months old now, and if you have seen the changes in him so far you would now question as I do. What color is he going to be? You see...now he is ever so CHOCOLATE color on top, with a beautiful red and black belly. Good grief. My husband still regularly teases Ruben about replacing him with the smooth b/t, but it will never happen. This is the most wonderful dog! What an adorable personality. And for all of my talk about NO DOG HAIR IN THE HOUSE, I LOVE to pet the furry little doll. I've taken to calling him my "changling baby." :flower:

LOL Tammara, sounds like Rubin changes with the seasons. You have to post a picture. Im totally confused:eek: on WHAT he is but love the stories you post on your kids. By the way Mirri is still red but now has developed a deep read streak running up the center of her back, washing out some of the black. She is now four color tones, red, black, tan, and deep red. I got a changling too and wonder what she will wind up being next. No chocolate yet..lol but maybe she might be another Rubin! But we adore her too and she has really has got my other two going with her antics. The hubby too dotes over her. It's so funny!

When I got my red angel dog, she looked like a black and tan, then turned red, deep red, and finally settled into a light red as an adult. Reds seem to go through all the different colors as puppies!

Dred, the honorary dachshund (aka ridgeback), went through 4 complete color changes before settling on is red wheaten with strawberry blonde highlights. He looks like he's wearing a red saddle! And he changes twice a year, his summer fur is so pointy it sticks into your skin and makes ya itch like mad! His winter coat is much more soft and feathery. Tia, my mother in law's mutt, goes through about 4 color changes a year. Right now she's got a black head and front shoulders, with a chocolate face, and a grey and white bottom and back hips. She'll be a grey color for winter. Maybe they're all related?

After b/t was this:

Then there was this:

Now the entire top of him is the warmest chocolate brown like this:

And then there is the red belly, with the black down it.

And don't forget his ever so NOT changing lovely red sister, Trenyce in the pics.

can definitely see the color changes even in the pics...
Trenyce is so adorable too with that pretty little girl-face:flower:
And yes, a dachshund is a dachshund, but I love to stroke my fuzzy little longhairs, too. :D
Angel has decided, for the time being, to remain dark red with black overlay and little black-tipped ears and tail. Pretty girl.
We washed Cassie, the dapple, and more light spots appeared on her fur (what's up with THAT?)...
:uh-oh:  debating whether to wash her a few more times and see if she turns completely white.:D :fierce:
Love pictures! Post many MANY pictures!!!

Absolutely adorable! With his changing colours, and her beautiful red, you can set them up as a Thanksgiving display of autumnal colours! :D
They are both complete sweeties!
Cheers
Lovely colors, great pics and they are both darling. ;)

He's one year old on June 10th, and we just got a new camera.
See what I mean???

He's handsome, and if I could get starphoto to cooperate a little better, you could see how he looks striped like a tiger, but at least I got this one. He is totally black on top, and completely red underneath, but his black is not growing out. He's lost his mask, unless he is in dim light.
ah now it's working

Well- I'm a little stumped myself. He's just gorgeous, though- wonderful coat! It's gotten very long- and looks silky. Chocolates like Dutch tend to go more fluffy than long!

wow, he is gorgeous!! Maybe he really is a sable... if he is tiger-striped, he might be! I have never seen one in person, so I won't guess on that. He has a beautiful long coat.
I see a pretty little Diva Girl in that second picture, too!:flower:

Both, Ruben and Trenyce are gorgeous. Ruben's coloring is coming out really nicely.

Isobel went through a few color changes when she was growing up, but nothing anywhere near what this little guy has been through. Isobel is a red sable and has the red with black overlay. Very pretty with her black-tipped ears and black hairs throughout her little body. My guess is that he's going to be close to a red sable, but that chocolate is throwing me! No matter what he is in terms of coloring, he is beautiful. They both are!

Whatever color he is, he's beautiful! What a gorgeous coat!

When I first got Penny she was red. As she got older, she became a red sable. In the winter, her coat turned brownish (still with the black spursed throughout) but now that she's spending more time in the sun it's turned red again. Does Ruben spend lots of time in the sun? Maybe that has something to do with it? Whatever he is, is is gorgeous---and not to take anything away from Trenyce is a beautiful girl!

Pretty doggies!!
As for color... a true chocolate must have a liver colored nose and green eyes if memory serves me right. And a true red sable will actually appear to be a black and tan from a distance with a mask and black overlay. They are very rare but many breeders mis-lable them as soon as they see a pup with a little black around the fringe or their ears or coat. I'd say your LH is a red. Red is pretty diverse, it can be very light to very dark and will often have some black in it.

Heavily overlaid but still a red <G> If he were a sable he would have a black widow's peak on his head....all year round.
But since I love the heavily overlaid reds I think he is a gorgeous color!
Cindi
PS Chocolates can and lots do have light yellow to brown eyes, too. <G>

Thanks all, I really don't care what he is, except that he's Mommy's Boy, but I laugh at his papers (I didn't send them in) as he's a b/t. Not quite. The chocolate was a phase and it was just hair not the rest of the color match.
It looks like this is his color now. The red is as red as his sis, and the black is so prominant. I guess now when asked I could say he's "technically red with black overlay?" My hubby still says we shouldn't have snipped him as he'd breed beautifully, but that wasn't ever the plan.
I like it that we won't ever lose our boy in a bunch of dachsies. He'll certainly stand out, and if anyone nears him, he'll pee-guaranteed we'll know it's him.:D Now as for his sis...:sarcasti:
We'll take more pics as this boy is so animated, and we have a new camera with "sports" mode. :bounce: :bounce:
