Toby, my 7month old doggy, has been makeing these wierd coughing noises. Kind of like our cat makes when he is coughing up a hairball. Can dogs get hairballs. Toby plays with the cat alot. In the process he consumes some fur. Not a lot but some. We also have a black lab that Toby plays with as well and he eats some of that fur too. I don't think he likes eating it, it just happens to get in his mouth when he is biting his older siblings when playing with them. Could this be why he coughs and hacks sometimes. And is there something I can give him. I only happens maybe once or twice a week, but it still upsets me.

Top Spin recently had a similar cough . . . turned out to be Trachial Bronchitus. Probably worth a visit to the Vet. http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/smile.gif

I'm curious as to what kind of collar you use when you walk the pupster. A choke collar and even a basic buckle collar can cause permenant trachael damage if the dog's not responding to them and conintues to pull. Owen used to hack like that on a choke collar. Let me know...

I use a harnes when walking toby. I don't believe in possibly choking my dog when we are out for a walk. Incidently Toby has not coughed this whole week. I went to the library and looked up some conditions but I never found anything that was close to what he does. Who knows.

Could be what is often called a reverse sneeze. this thing is common in dachsies. it sounds very strange, almost a snort, almost a hack, almost an asthma attack. Nest time it happens try gently rubbing his throat and see if that helps it subside.

Yes, that sound like what he does. Thankyou. I think the mystery has been solved. http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/biggrin.gif:
