Has anyone any suggestions for treating dry skin?<IMG SRC="http://dachsie.org/ubb/cwmsmilies/cwm6.gif" border=0> Because Brutus was taking several baths (hydro-therapy) for his back problem, I noticed that he now has dry skin (so do I for that matter, as I also took the baths with him). I don't know if I should treat it internally or externally. Thanks for your help.

I wipe Penny and Maggie down with Avon Skin-so-soft spray (moisturizing dry oil body mist). I brush them with a little rubber grooming brush, squirt them and then brush again. It takes care of their dry flakes and also keeps them smelling nice. Both Penny and Maggie like it - actually they love to be brushed and just tolerate the spray - but my friend Jane's dachsie HATES the sound/feel of the squirt bottle. Jane has to squirt the spray oil on her hands and rub down her dog.

Try giving Omega 3 capcels once a day. Also a spray I have used is Alpha Keri, with Listerine & water equal parts.I have used it since 1970 when I had German Shepherds.Tudox
Hi jadedpixie,
During the winter months we put a tsp. of Lite Olive Oil on their food and their skin stays great.

A few tips:
After each bath, pour a capful of the avon skin so soft in a bucket and fill it with warm water. Use that as a final rinse so it works kind of like a conditioner -good for your skin too.
I used to use olive oil, but I found something that is even healthier and works even better -Fish Body Oil caps. They provide great Omega-3 fatty acids and help improve the skin as well as the coat. Roscoe's coat has improved so much since I started adding it. It also seems to keep their coat more water repellant than it was before. I puncture one 1000mg gelcap and add it to the boys food each evening(they each get about half) and a bottle of 60 cost me about 4 dollars. Make sure it is not Fish LIVER oil -that has too much vit. A. A fish oil from the fish flesh will not provide any Vit A so just read the labels.
Omega-3's are great fpr the heart too and other body systems as well.
another bonus is you add less fat and calories than with a tsp of olive oil -only one fat gram per capsule.
Hope that helps!
