Loads of dachsie rayz please guys. Shelbie woke me at 3 this morning coughing and retching and has been off her food off and on which I put down to separation recently and coming back from vacation. Took her to the vets this afternoon and he says he doesn't think its kennel cough as she didn't cough when he manipulated her throat but she did yelp when he touched her upper tummy. She's to have no food tonight and I'm taking her back in tomorrow at 9am. She's hungry which I suppose is a good sign and pretty ticked off that no biscuits are being offered but does anyone have any experience of this? The vet said whatever it is we've caught it pretty early but you still worry don't you?

Thanks Krista, that was a useful article even tho bits of it were a bit scary. Its officially teatime at 7pm and I'm getting stared at....the vet even said we had to eat in a different room as the smell of food could get those digestive juices flowing which is bad news at the moment. I'm sure hubby will understand the fact we're having salad all of a sudden on a cold and rainy London night! Thanks for the rayz too!

Hello again,

I just did a quick web search (it's after work now) and found 30 links for pancreatitis in dogs. If you vet confirms this as the cause of Shelbie's problems I'll redo the search and send you as many links as possible. I only looked the first links so I don't know how good the information will be.

Good luck, and best wishes,

Tom and the boys (Frank and Tanner)

Oh dear! I'm so sorry you're having this worry. LOTS of healing rays to Shelbie! Please let us know as soon as you hear something from the vet.

Thanks everyone for your kind words and thoughts. Well, I took her back this morning after an ok night but the vet's kept her in to do blood tests and an xray and she's on a drip. She's going to stay in overnight and I'm to call tomorrow morning. . Sigh! The house seems very empty with no-one pestering me cos I'm on the 'puter but on the plus side we can eat dinner like normal people tonight instead of skulking in the kitchen. closing the fridge door really quietly keep those rayz coming - another update soon.

Wow, a bit thrown off by this news!
As the article said, early diagnosis can go a long way toward recovery.
Hope to hear a very positive report from you soon.
Hugs,
Roxane

Pancreatitis can be very scary, but I personally don't know of a dog that has died of it. I believe the pancreas is one of the organs that will rebuild itself if the problem is removed.

Did someone feed her a lot of fat recently? The saying is that the dogs that get it are FAT, FIVE, & FEMALE (but that's just a generalization).

We are sending massive dachsie rayzz your way. (With all the problems on this board lately, it's a good thing that dachsie rayzz are like love, when you pass them on, they multiply.)

SHE'S HOME!!!!!!! Thanks again to everyone for your support. I don't think they actually knew quite what was wrong with her but she seems pretty normal now except for the clean white bandage on her paw where the drip was. I was really searching my memory in case we fed her something fatty in the last week but she's on such a strict diet that I can honestly say "wasn't us" of course when we go for a walk if I'm not quick she can pick up some pretty horrible things from the pavement....oh well, she currently siting on the couch demanding I change channels on the TV....coming sweetheart

What show did Shelbie make you watch?

You have a great love for your pup if you eat cold salads so her juices won't flow.Come to think of it, all of us on this board would! That's because we love our dachsies...

"Emergency Vets" on satellite. Then she grumbled "Oh, it's so unrealistic, they just wouldn't DO that in the middle of that operation...." She continues to do well, bandage came off this morning, half chewed off and half cut off by me. I think with a lot of rest over the weekend and loads of cuddles, she'll be 100% by Monday

Shelbie, you're quite a character! We're glad to read that you're doing better. http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/smile.gif

You have great taste in your TV shows! Maggie likes to watch Emergency Vets too ... if she isn't in the middle of a good nap.

Oh dear! I was out of town when all this occurred. You must have been terrified!! What's the latest? Has Shelbie recovered fully? Is she demanding that you play your "Glorious" tape over and over...? http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/wink.gif

Shelbie

Hi Weinergal! Yes, she's fine now thank you. Keeps wanting to go in a speedboat with Sean Connery for some reason but only if she can sit at the side. (All non-Eddie Izzard fans are now going

Dear Shelbie if you have any clout with Sean, please reserve a seat for me on the boat, too. I don't care where I sit, although his lap would be nice!http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/smile.gif
So glad all is well, you must stop frightening your Mum that way.
Loads of love,

Thank you Roxanne, Greta and Baylea. Don't worry, the more grey hairs I give her the more she just goes to the hairdressers Do you think Sean Connery looks like my red long-haired boyfried I met in the park the other week? If he does, sorry, I have first dibs on his knee
