We had to say goodbye to our mini-dachsie Gretta today, who we rescued from a kill shelter almost two years ago. Although deemed unadoptable due to obvious advanced age and Cushings Disease, I insisted, until the shelter staff relented. A very gentle little creature, I've felt honored to care for and love her over these past several months. After the vet had put her to rest, I told my husband her position on the table made it look as though she was running. He said, she is! "She's running across The Bridge". A rather happy way to remember our sweet little Gretta.
We loved her so very much.

My heart is breaking for you Patt.

Take comfort in knowing that the time Gretta spent with you was happy for her. I'm sure she knows you love her.

Take care.

We're so sorry Patt. We know that it is tough to do . . . . but as their caretakers we must do the best we can for our furkids . . . even if it means letting go.

We're so glad you gave Gretta the love and joy she enjoyed for the past two years . . . you gave her life and happiness where she only had imminent sadness and death. Do remember the happy days you had together.

You know there are many of us here at DBB that have suffered a loss like this . . . and were right here with and for you.

Gretta was so lucky you found her at the shelter. (And you were lucky to have found her.) Her passing is so sad. But knowing the love and care she had with you can only make me smile and be happy for little Gretta.

I am so sorry to hear about little Greta. I know it is hard to let go of such a special little one and how heartbreaking it is. She is at the bridge and she's healthy and happy and she went knowing she was truly loved. You were sent to her that day in the shelter to look past what others might find unadoptable and give her the love she so needed even if it was only for awhile. And what a blessing to know and love such a gentle little soul. The really wonderful thing is that because of your love she has someone of her own to be waiting to greet one day at the bridge.

What awful news! I'm so sorry for the loss of your little Gretta. While I'm not sure if us humans are deserving of a heaven- I'm positive that every dog is, and Gretta has made her way. Thank you for taking a life that could have ended in a cold shelter and making it wonderful!

Im so sorry for your loss of Gretta and comforted in the fact that she had such a loving home with you in these last years. She's now at the bridge filled with love and happiness that a very special mom gave her. Dachi hugs to you and Greta for a very special relationship, it was blessed.

I'm so very sorry to hear about Gretta!

Be Ever In My Heart

Be ever in my broken heart
for our love was meant to be.
Be ever in my far-off gaze
for love-filled eyes will always see.
Be ever in my silent thoughts
for we share sweet memories.
Be ever watchful as you wait
across the Bridge for me.

Be carefree, happy and secure
as you play and run and dream.
And once again together we'll be
with sparkling eyes and hearts that beam.
So rest in Love and Peace my friend
and joyously wait there for me.
When we're together once again
how perfect Forever will be!

Patt - we are so sorry that you had to let Gretta go. Just like others here, we share the in joy that she had for the past two years with you - and we know she will be first in line at the Bridge.

All the best,

Patt,

I'm not sure what to say . These little special needs kids and yes they are reguardless of their age have a way of making an especially large impact on us. To watch them overcome or at least cope with things most dogs never have to face can be inspiring.

I like your husband's comment, too. It's so hard to lose a little dog - they are so gentle and innocent. I'm glad she had people who loved her these last couple of years.

Our thoughts are with you at this difficult time.

I am so sorry for the loss of Greta. I know this is such a hard time. Take comfort in knowing that she is now pain free. I am so glad you had each other, while the time was short, she got to know the love that only special loving people can give to one with special needs. She knew how loved she was and will forever be happy and looking on to the day when she can see you again.
I have been gone for 3 days. I am so sorry I was not here when you posted this.
Sending you lots of ((((((((( hugs ))))))))))) and love, for you are truly an
Please know we are here for you and that we are keeping you in our thoughts and prayers.
I am so glad Greta had you in her life and was able to live the life she so deserved with you.

Oh Patt! With all our communications lately, I didn't realize you'd lost one only a few days ago. Don't think of her lieing there on the table, think of her the way she was, bright, sunny and full of love. Think of all the positive ways you impacted her life.

As I write this, I'm looking at my picture of Paige, and remembering how hard it was to put her to rest, and crying, of course.

Dear Patt,
I am so sorry for your loss. Gretta sounds like a very sweet little soul. As Tom said, these special needs little ones have a special place in our hearts. What a wonderful thing that her last years were filled with love and kindness... that she received and gave.
