We took Schnaggles and Buffy to the vet 10 days ago and they weighed 2.5kg (5.5lb) and 2.2kg (4.8lb) respectively.
We weighed them again last night, and Homer Simpson and his sister have gained 0.5kg (1lb) EACH! What a pair of little porkers! If they are converting that much food to body growth, I don't know where all their poo is coming from! :)

How old are your "little porkers"? :D If they are under a year, I wouldn' t worry too much - just increase their exercise. If they are older. I am a big fan of the green bean diet. I cut back on kibble by 1/3, and add 1/4 cup of no-salt, pureed green beans and pour over the top to use as "gravy". Others here used canned pumpkin (not the pie filling!!) in the same way. Good luck! Julia B.

Oh, are they around 15-16 weeks now? They sure are getting big! It's sooo hard to judge a puppy's proper weight- at that age, a tiny bit of belly isn't going to hurt them. Lynx went from thin to chub to thin to chub over and over during his first couple of months. Just keep an eye on them- don't let them carry too much weight around for too long! BTW- my minis haven't been official minis for awhile now- Lynx was over 12 lbs. by 8 months, Dutch is over 13 lbs. at 7! Oh well! :D

They are about 15 weeks old, so I'm not worried yet. I'll start gettting worried when they can open the fridge for themselves (or eat their way through the fridge door to get to the food ...) :)

Mine gained weight exponentially until about 5 months :caffeine:  and then the growth rate slowed DRAMATICALLY. At 6 1/2 months, they still qualify as minis (although both are bigger than their daddy already).
As long as your puppies are not overly round, they are probably doing okay. Angel is very lean... her sister is a little more - um - "fluffy."

wouldn't be overly concerned as they are still puppers! If they are not too active, you might want to consider more exercise! How much are they eating by the way..and what are they eating?

If they are not too active? I'm still looking for the 'stop' button on them because they are turbo charged, LOL!!! They were on four meals a day, but we've reduced that to three. Meals revolve around Innova dried food, raw meat and canned puppy food. I think I am just surprised because they're growing so quickly

Maybe you want to cut down on 1 of the 3 different meals...Like less Innova kibble which has the most carbs and just stick with the canned and raw meat.

Thanks :)
They are famished for their morning and lunch feeds, so we'll start reducing the night meal and go from there :)

as they are still puppies and need a considerable amount more fat, protein and calories than an older dachsie does.

Thanks :) I think because we've had cats for ages, and they are happy to graze all day, it's been a culture shock to get two 'vultures' at the food bowl :)

Sorry but what you said is sooooo funny! It gave me a good laugh and for that I thank ya.
I too have a cat but she must be part Dachsie as she is "fluffy" and I'm talking the vet told me to cut her from a cup of food a day to 3/4's when I was already feeding her 3/4's. Needless to say she is now getting a 1/2 cup a day - poor kitty.
My two dachshunds are vultures also and always looking for food.

Another nick name many dachsunds rightly earn is Hoover as in the Hoover vacume cleaner:D Between Family dogs and my own I've lived with 7 dachsunds over the years and I would say about half of the were good little Hoovers never letting so much as a crumb sit on the floor for more than a second or two,. Now some had better noses and were better at locating thse crumbs than others.

:D I had the best deep down tummy laugh!!! thanks..
Lilly's nickname was "Pig Lilly" That girl was hungry all of the time! We bought her a cube that you put small dry kibble inside of, the dog has to push it around the floor to get a piece of food to drop out of - it helped her to slow down the process of eating, and gave her a mental and physical workout as well.

they buzzzz around anyone with food or what they think is food. And yes they know how to use the "l@@k." Mitzi has been known to steal food right off Granma's plate when Granma is even holding it. Dang that long tongue of hers. Of course it doesn't help that I'm laughing my head off while it's happening. Can't help it - wish I could get a picture or two of it. :raz:

I knew my Buddy was going to most likely be a bit larger than the normal mini when we bought him. His dad and mom were 10 lbs, but his dad had thrown a few pups which were about 12 lbs. Buddy and his brother were the larger of the litter and I knew he would most likely exceed the mini limit when I bought him. Now i am wondering just how big he will be. He was 15 weeks on Tuesday and weighed in at 7 lb 2 oz at his vet check today. It's not like he is fat either, he is very lean. I didn't want a tiny dog, guess I won't have one! :flower:
