My poor baby. Something is wrong. He is having tremors. He has an appt. with the vet today. I hope he's ok. Anyone have this problem? My hubby initially thought that it was due to the change of temperature outside, but once he's inside he still continues to doe his tremor thing, so the temperature could not be the issue.

I hope Chiefy is ok. When Oscar was sick a week ago,he also had tremors. But they didnt find anything wrong with him.
Hi Loren,
Poor Chiefy! Tremors could be so many things. Please let us know what the Vet says. Meanwhile we're sending some RAYZ.

well..his tremors subsided...went to a new vet last evening...still not satisfied...they all just want to give shots and make money. So aggravating and frustrating.

It can be very frustrating. Did they have any ideas? Did Chiefy have any other symptoms?
Hi Loren,
It sounds very frustrating. What shots did the vet wanna give? What was the diagnosis? Sounds like time to try a new Vet? Are the tremors still happening?
Sending Rayz to Chiefy!

This dog has been through toooo much in his short year or less. We adopted him from a shelter. The shelter said that the owners gave him the shots but they provided no written documentation so they gave their own. When I asked for thier copy, they had none, just verbally told me. Feeling uneasy about the whole situation, I went to a local vet that we had used (baby sat for a dog owner) and discussed this with him. He said wouldnt hurt to give him shots for your records and piece of mind. After I went home and he had his first round (found info. on over vaccination and allergies to lepto (in one of th shots) that the vet never told me. Luckily he didn't react to the first set. The second set, he threw up for hours and shook violently for hours, then finally he was ok. Not wanting to give him any more shots we call the vet and he basically said we should go ahead with it and he'd watch him for us. (why so he can see him go through the misery and not tell us) we decided for a new vet. Last night, same story. we didn't let him get any shots. I talked about titer testing, he got a little annoyed and said he wouldn't recommend (not accurate)etc. It's not easy, we live in Queens, New York, don't have a car. This new vet we had to call a cab. All I want is a happy healthy dog.

Since the dangers of parvo and distemper are very real especially in dogs that come from shelters, I would always have a dog shot's updated if I didn't know the vaccination history. Except for allergic reactions, there is little danger from over vaccinating. It is much more dangerous to do without. I wouldn't give the lepto shot though as it is most likely to cause a reaction. My vet doesn't recommend them.

Chiefy isn't clumsier than most dogs, is he? We have a kitten with a birth condition called Cerebellar Hypoplasia, where the Cerebrum (the little brain at the base of the main brain that controls motor skills) is undeveloped. The kitten is small, clumsy, & has tremors. Also, my pup's two littermates had the same thing. It is caused by the mother getting a virus when she is pregnant. If the dog or kit survives, they never get any worse, & they usually learn to compensate for it. Nothing can be done for it but live with it. I mention this mostly for that reason -- all the meds in the world won't do a thing.
It really is best to get his shots, but not if he is feeling poorly. Most reactions will happen within 2 hrs or so, so leaving him there would be a good idea. If he DOES have reactions to vaccinations, you really want to know about it, & not let it be a surprise at a bad time, or when you're not around to get it fixed.
