On Friday Wotan had his first poop attack. I attributed it to some old bones he got ahold of- but here it is Monday morning and and he still has grombles.
He looks hang dog at times like when I get dressed to leave),but eats, drinks and plays with Monkey well.
The stool started looking a half solid yesterday. Is it time to call the Room of Doom? Should I start feeding him rice and chicken bits?

Poor Wotan! (How about that for a Freudian error I just typed a "p" instead of an "r" at the end of the first word!!!!). Shelbie suggests a big kiss on the nosy-wose but then as we know she's a trollop. Get well soon, Wo! xx

I would try the chicken and rice for today ... if he still has da poops tomorrow or if you start seeing blood perhaps the woom ob doom isnt such a bad idea. Sometimes it takes dogs along time to digest things. Hope Woton gets to feeling better soon.

Ohhhhhh...the dreaded gutsy-wumbles! So sorry! What always works for Peaches (recommended by vet) is WHITE rice mixed with BAKED lean ground beef, rather than chicken. Drain all the fat off before you mix it. See if you can mix a Pepto-Bismol tablet or a cherry Tums in with it. This combo usually binds Farfie right up after he has gotten into something loathsome.....
Good luck, Wo! Feel better!

Hope Wo is feeling better. Immodium works well for upset tummies. A friend who is into homeopathic remedies says that boiled potatoes are better than rice.

Thanks guys!
Mr. Wotan is back to his normal, ornery self. He's been chasing dad and trying to tear his shoes off, chasing the Muck and chomping on Monkey (which still surprisingly has a squeaky intact! )
The other night I let him out and he ran into the dark yard. Being black I couldn't see him, but boy- did I hear him! That was the most gas that ever could come out of somebody that small. I figured "Long dog-Long fart".
I appreciate the diff. ideas. Now I have something to fall back on when one of the Hoggies gets ahold of something less than
nummy.

Poor Wotan. Got himself a bactieral infection of some kind. The Evil Kings of the Room of Doom gave him the antidote "Albon". Anybody heard of this one?
He can't eat for 24 hours and this should go over like a lead pig-ear...
This morning I got to sample some of that fine poop-deee-doo on my little toe as I tore around the corner of the kitchen. One land mine had already been cleared away- but this one was well hidden...
The whole day I seem to be smelling dachshund hiney...

Oh, Sonja, just caught up with this latest Wotanmania. Poor little feller. It is so hard to take when they just aren't up to snuff. Perhaps, that wasn't quite the expresion to use in view of the problem.http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/emb.gif
Greta and Baylea sending best wishes for a more odoriferous Wo.

Oh, poor Wo! I just don't picture him fasting for 24 hours. Watch out or he'll be gobbling up that lead pig ear!! Hope he feels (and smells!) better soon!!!

Sometimes a 24-hour fast is the only thing you have to do. It gives the irritated intestine time to heal itself. And don't give anti-diarrheal meds for the first 24 hrs, if you can avoid it. If it IS a bacterial infection, the body needs to get rid of it, which is what the diarrhea is doing.
Then you can give a bland diet in small amounts, sort of easing him back into eating.
BTW, my girl is in at the vet's today, to be "tutored". At 4:30 a.m., she vomited a stone, a whole filbert, & some cat poop. I warned them that she might have other surprise goodies. Silly dog! Is it 1:30 yet?

PA, good luck with the "tutoring!" I'm sure your trash-gobblin' girl with the iron gut sailed through it!

Goodness P.A.!
No wonder your pup weighs so much- she ate a few horse shoes, a hockey puck or two, a garden decoration and some golf cleats...
And I thought Wotan was a nibbler!
BTW- when I got home today my little angel was much fixed. His appetite had returned so I fed him a few bitesize kibbles... He was disgusted and begged for my tomato and onion sandwich (yeah,as if he'd really enjoy that! ).
The poop thing seems to be gone. He likes his banana yellow meds. I went through all these gyrations to get him to swallow the stuff and after I got the stuff all over my hands-cranked open the jaws of death and delivered the meds, Wo then decided it was pretty yummy and licked the spoon.
Tomorrow I try JUST the spoon

Sonja, you might try the spoon with Wo but can you imagine what would happen if PA tried that? Back to the vet, for sure.
I am really suspicious that our little darlings do these things just to drive us up the wall! I believe a really skewed sense of humor has been bred into all of them!http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/lol.gif
