Hello everyone,
I just got back for a six hour per first aid workshop put on by one of the Vet Student organizations at Colorado State. One of the instructors was the primary teacher. At one point the subject of Benedryl came up. I know many of you here use Benedryl so some of this will be old information and some may be new.
Fist for dosage the instructor said 1mg/1lb of body weight. By the same token this is a safe product to use and you don't really have to worry about an OD. Now for some interesting points on Benedryl. Make sure you through it out and don't keep it past it's expiration date. When it gets old a normal dose can sometimes cause a dog to become hyper. Speaking of hyper they had one patient who had gotten ahold of a full bottle of Benedryl and consumed the whole thing. I can't remember if he said what size the dog was. They eventually had to sedate the dog to bring it down from the three day high it had been on.
