We do an assortment of "cleaning" time for Chief, we call it "nudgement time" :)

After his 3 walk, and snack, he goes running into the bedroom. I take a bag full of supplies, wipes, toothbrush, paste, and breath friend gel, his brush, and some lotion.

We do each of the daily items while I sing from the Wizard of OZ, brush brush here and brush brush there..that's how we make the Chiefy clean...

We get to the boys 3 or 4 times a week. Maybe they'll enjoy it a little more if I sing to them! :D

Just kidding! :sarcastic With 3 doxies only 1 doesn't mind it to much, as long as you play ball with him after.

We have about as much luck with the teeth brushing as we do cleaning ears. But they don't get away with game playing on that one. Those longhaired doxies do seem to get more infections if not taken care of on a regular basis.

Now the nail clipping is another story again. Why do they have to grow back so darn fast. I think it would work best to cement our backyard. maybe then they would wear them down without any help from me!!!:crying: :dizzy:

I brush Annie's daily because she's had trouble with them. She doesn't like it, but she submits to it. Molly has had trouble, too, and has had several teeth pulled, but I can't brush her teeth to save my life! It's beyond me how a 10-pound dog can be so difficult to have your way with. Molly basically stands on her forehead when I try, which dispenses with the whole ugly business.

With three they are all different, but generally I do a good brushing once a week. Through Oxyi-Fresh (my denist has the line) I purchased three sided tooth brushes that work great on canine teeth. This way I do not have to angle as I do a finger brush or toothbrush. The puppy right now I do use a finger brush and dental wipers to get her use to me cleaning her teeth. Misty needs to be done at least every two days, horrible tartar builder! Magic is once a week now as Mirri.

They all know when it is teeth time, not too happy, but will accept it though Mirri likes my fingers for a meal. After it's done it's play time and a gradual treat, see Im not a total monster!

I've only done Charlie's about 1/month. I'm trying to get into the habit of doing it at least once a week.

My pups hate to have their teeth cleaned. It's such a chore that I don't do it as much as I should. I tried brushes, the little rubber finger thingie and wipes. I do give them a lot of dental treats, hoping that it will help.

Oh I am a bad mommy as I have not done the tooth brushing and have just given dental treats.
I have to say you all have inspired me here to do it! Perhaps the singing will work - I love that Meemo

Dudley really hates his teeth cleaned he bites at the tooth brush or little rubber finger tip he just doesn't cooperate at all. Last year when we went to the vet she said he would be good because he let her look at this teeth. (Well think again, he is such a baby at the vet , BECAUSE HE IS SCARED TO DEATH) so they can do anything to him. I try about once a month to do them. Today Dudley has his yearly check up and he got all A's even on his teeth. So guess I will just keep doing what I do. Poor baby got 4 shots but was a doll. Here in Fl you have to get Rabies every year. In NJ only every three years.

Kodiak is pretty good about getting hia teeth brushed. We make it into a game and he bites down on the brush and I pull away while giving a little brush to his teeth. He seems to know what is going on because he dosn't fight too hard and stays pretty still when I am brushing.

When I took Oliver to the vets last time to have his teeth checked, I asked him if I should start brushing his teeth regularly and the vet said no. He said I should use a slightly used clean sock, moisten it just a little bit and run it on the outside of his teeth just to take the slime off that will turn into tartar and stuff. Plus, it will massage his gums at the same time. He said that brushing is not really normal for a dog's teeth and that it can sometimes irritate the gums and so on.

It kind of makes sense doesn't it? What does everyone think?

Tia gets hers done roughly 4 times a week. She hates getting it done!

Yes, I brush Willy's teeth several times a week, and I also use a dental scaler to remove the plaque from the teeth I can get to. He is not crazy about it, but will let me do whatever I need to. No rewards for this--just part of the program.

We tried for the once a week thing, but got lazy in that. Olana didn't mind the brushing at first when she was pup, but as we started doing it less, she became less tolerant of it. She will let us do it eventually, but it's a very quick event because she keeps trying to pull away. I am going to try the sock thing to remove the plaque. I've seen dirt in her teeth at times after she's been outside playing and that worries me. I don't want my baby to have dirt in her teeth all day!
