Hi: I have a strange question? My two doxies chew on each other years. They don't seem to be hurting one another, but is normal practice? I'm worried one of them will get hurt. Ann

Jen, what a cute picture! Sassie has such a blank innocent expression on her face!

Ann, I have only 1 dachsie, but a couple years ago my sister's dachsie came to visit for 2 weeks. They immediately shared an ear infection, then my dachsie (Annie) seemed to have a recurrence. It was strange, though--her ear canal looked clean but the inside of the ear flap was all broken out. The vet told me this was caused by the other dog (Lucy) licking it, trying to "fix" it. I think that's about the only way they'll cause any damage by chewing ears.

Gidget seems to think Chaucer's ears are her own personal chew-toy. Doesn't seem to bother him at all, though I did find a little tooth mark on one of his ears...

But, I figure he is almost 3X her size....so, if it bothered him too much, we'd know about it.

Course, he's a fraidy boy.

That is such a cute picture of Sassie, Jen!

I don't know much about the ear chewing thing... My kitty will nip Willi on the ear if Willi gets too rough. This causes Willi to squeal like a pig and take off running.

Lisa, my Willi has a "rash" on his ear flaps too....canal is clean though. He did some skin cultures and we are waiting for the cytology report to come back. The vet said it appears to be inflammatory but wants the cytologist to confirm this.

Any ideas? I'm baffled too. The cat doesn't "chew" on his ears so I'm not sure what could cause this...
