Our Schnitzel loves carrots, apples and oranges. Is this healthy for her to eat?

Those are great choices, full of vitamin C and carrots are good for their breath.

My Dolly and Maddie LOVE avocados and tomatoes. The other day I was making my lunch with an avocado. It was a bit on the rip side so slid out of the skin pretty easily. With me holding a "shell" in each hand, the girls each had one to clean out and I must say, they did an excellent job.http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/silly.gif

Our guys LOVE veggies...they each have their favorite, too of course! Just remember to go with moderation. And don't let them eat tomatoe leaves. Tomatoe plants are poisonous to bothe dogs and humans...but the fruit is great for everyone.

Our foster, Dash, turns down homemade doggie cookies everytime for a carrot!

Chaucer's favourite is cucumbers....but they both like baby carrots also....

Sugar snap peas, in the casing, actually keeps them amused for a few minutes while they try and get the peas OUT.

LuLu is a carrot monster. Stinker loves oranges, but will eat almost anything. Rena

Freddie loves carrots too! I keep a bag of the baby carrots on hand. Last night I filled his Kong with them, he had fun!http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/smile.gif

I'll have to try Cucumber and Avacado. Right now I can get 15 for $2.00 from a local Produce Stand.<IMG SRC="http://dachsie.org/ubb/cwmsmilies/cwm26.gif" border=0>

I wonder about Citrus though - I would think the acid would cause tummy upset?? I've thought about it though. So your guys are fine with Citrus fruits??

Stinker seems to be fine. She loves oranges, tangerines, grapefruit, and would even eat lemons. I don't let her have very much of the grapefruit or lemon (just a taste of lemon), but she would steal an orange if she could. At 13, I don't argue with her too much. I don't think she has ever had an upset stomach. Rena

Isobel started the herd on red cabbage. She knocked one out of the frig once and rolled it into another room so as to have privacy to munch it at her leisure. All the pups wanted a taste . . .now they line up for a hunk of cabbage a week. It's not a pretty sight as they drool more over this veggie than over their most favorite cookies!

he, he, he...

My absolute favorite dish is German Red Cabbage (actually a Slovakian dish) with lots of vinegar (no sugar please). Everytime I make it...I have little dachsies trying to steal red cabbage scraps! They sit on teh blue rug in the kitchen.....because of course their little tushies can't touch the tile floor....Henry sits there crunching away on his red cabbage with a big smile on his face...I think he is the best cabbage eater...

I can just picture a dachsie rolling a head of cabbage into the other room! http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/biggrin.gif

I too love the image of the dachsie rolling the red cabbage to his "safe eating spot!" http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/lol.gif

My dogs are big fruit/veg eaters too. Apples, melon, carrots, blueberries, and broccoli stems are their favorites. They all love the carrot hunts here at the office. Peaches will cry and yodel her heart out for watermelon--it is her very favorite food in the world!

I doubt that the citric acid would hurt their stomachs. Dogs have a much higher concentration of hydrochloric acid in their tums than we do--that's why they can gulp meat down whole and not get sick! So a little extra acid probably wouldn't faze them!
