Hi Alisha,

I am unfamiliar with this and the best I can do is send some Dachsie & Catahoula healing RAYZ http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/rayz.gif http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/rayz.gif http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/rayz.gif http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/rayz.gif

There are so many knowledgable people here I would be surprised if someone isn't aware of it. http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/biggrin.gif

Please keep us posted,
Mark

Hi,

It Sounds like you are talking about mange to me. Mange is caused by mites living on the dog's skin.

There are two major types of mange and they are treated differently. Here are links to two articles describing the types and the treatments. I'd try a different vet if the one you are going to does not try and help when the treatment they prescribe does not work.

How old is PJ????

Poor pj. I wish I could tell you something that would help him out. I would guess the same thing Krista did - mange. I have heard that it can be very difficult to treat and that often, it is very slow to respond to treatment. Perhaps you can try a different vet or a specialist?
I hope you find something to help him out soon.

Sounds like PJ might have a mange called Demodex its a mite that is passed from mother to pups during nursing all dogs have mites present in their skin. The problem is that it effects some pups differently than other sometimes stressful situations can bring on outbreaks. We had a pup with it they treated her with ointment call Goodwinol (sp) its a thick orange colored cream. Its seemed to help her alot. I would try a different vet. this type of mange should be very treatable. You can try oatmeal baths in lukewarm water also in the meantime.

Good Luck hope PJ feels better soon http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/smile.gif

Once you find out exactly the cause - if it's mange - you might try adding seameal to his food to help the hair grow. I believe that stuff can grow hair on a basketball. Look at www.solidgoldhealth.com (http://www.solidgoldheath.com)
