I checked into one in Columbus for Feb. What are they like and what do I expect? I've been to impromptu picnics, but never something like this...any advice or tips?

I keep getting e-mails as to when the next one is but it is so darn cold that I can't see taking Chief to it...When the weather warms up I will definitely be attending.

Ours ALWAYS get canceled- except for the ONE month I didn't keep track of the emails... there must have been 12 dachshunds there!!

The one I've been to had 13 people RSVP.... well, 2 of us showed. You can see a picture of little funny "Sammy" sniffing Lynx's butt if you click on Orlando's pictures. My boys looked soooo big next to him! He was such a cutie- barked his little head off, and 30 seconds after his hudad introduced us, he lifted his leg and made a puddle on his dad's shoes!!! This picture was snapped right before, by his dad. We didn't get a very long visit because of that- and because I was having a hard time keeping a straight face!!!

Well- now that we've got THREE (almost!)- we're practically our own private meet-up!!

This one is supposed to be in Feb....we'll see how the weather is, but it sounds fun and it would be nice to meet local dachsie people. What do they do there?

I've going to them since April last year. I've made most months. We've gotten rained out a couple of times, but I always have a lot of fun!

So far the attemps to hold one locally have not received enough responses to be held. I would have to drive to Denver and since at least for the winter the meetups seem to be located inside Pet smarts down there in areas not too convient to the longer distance commuter I haven't attended any. Last Sunner they were outside but in a location in SW Denver that is about a 1.5 hour drive each way. In the summer where you wouldn't dare try to combine even a short stop someplace else that seems a little too far.

I keep signing up for the one near me & it keeps getting cancelled. I even tried for some cities farther away, but no luck there either. I'll keep signing up...bound to hit it one of these times!!:bounce:

At the first one, there were only 3 dogs there.

At the meetup last week, there were 5 dogs and more than 10 people. I recommend them, however, make sure you're sure of the spot to meet everyone if it's a large venue (e.g. park).

I love getting to play with everyone else's dogs.

never happen. If the Columbus one actually takes place let me know and I'll pack Miss and Zeke in the car and we'll make the trip, only about 2 hours from here.

I'll do that, Lori. We'll see if it happens since it's in Feb. Not a real good month for outdoor activity...but it could be fun!

I try to go every chance I get. Usually everyone just compares Doxie stories and advice like we do here....plus you get to pet and cuddle all the adorable little Doxies ;) When I first signed up they all got cancelled. It took a few months before their were enough people to actually have one. Then a couple months after that their was an article in the Houston Chronicle about Dachshund Meetups and lots more people started coming! There have been anywhere from 3-15 people at a Meetup...then there is an average of 1-2 dogs per person. It's a lot of fun seeing all the Doxies together. I never regret going...no matter how far away or how bad the weather :)

and make the ones that come to Alabama and Lousianna.
Never been, but think it would be alot of fun, interacting with all the other doxie obsessed folks.:bounce: :bounce:

I am trying to start a meetup in Baton Rouge but there is only 3 people signed up! So.... I have been pestering my fiance and best friend to bring their Dachsies. I would definitely like to attend a Dachshund Meetup. I know the New Orleans group is a nice size. Me and Ted might have to befriend the New Orleans group if the Baton Rouge one doesn't work out!

So far, I'm the only one interested here. Since they said Feb, I think that few will show up. Been too bloody cold here, for one thing. I'll keep trying and let the OH people know if one actually gets planned---would be nice to meet you all.
