I was just wondering if you all give in to your little sweeties when they want some of what you're having?...
I'll admit I do but only a TEENY bit and not very often at all. Sometimes it's just so hard and when it's only a TEENY TINY BABY BITE of something that I don't think would be bad for her but very tasty... well I can't help it, I love seeing her so happy! :)
What about you guys?

The ocassional little bit here and there. They love popcorn and will end uping getting something like 3-5 kernels each if I pop some. The corner of a wheat thin or some types of coopies. When I say corner I mean something about half the size of my thumb nail. In the rare cases where I have either one they might get a little bacon or steak juice dribbled over their food. I will also sometimes give them small pieces of salmon. I would say they average perhaps 2-3 days a week that they get a nibble of something. Now they will watch me like a hawk and Dexter has left drool pools watching me eat but that doesn't mean I give in very easily.

Well- we are moving in a less conservative way of feeding our dogs- and since kibble is now OUT, they eat plenty of food that most people would consider "human food"! But they hardly EVER get anything that WE eat- because I'm shamefully MUCH less careful about our own food than theirs! If D wasn't such a silly, sloppy eater... they'd practically NEVER get any! :D

eggs, apple cider vinegar, yogurt which are all human foods! Other than that he gets his pre-made raw food with snacks...

Depends on what it is. If I'm eating grilled meat and veggies, I give them the left overs. I don't give them junk food and try to keep my husband from giving them crackers, etc. If I'm eating something that I don't think would be good for them I give them a carrot or doggie treat. They're happy with anything I give them.

If im eating chicken or other meats, I give Graci just a little bite. she loves it, plus I think its Good for her.

She always gets a bite of apple or banana (not very much! just one bite) and if carrots are on hand she gets one, too.

another thing she likes, but rarely gets are animal crackers. I give her a couple just about once a month.

Usually I do not feed human food. I only feed cooked chicken or cooked ground beef to tempt them when they have stopped or picky at eating their own food.

and then maybe a couple of green beans, or a bite of fresh greens from our nightly salad. The dh feeds a bite of meat from time to time, and Trencye is not a polite girl when turkey is in the house (even though it's hard on her stomach). She's downright demanding. LOVES the stuff.
Ruben has been known to snag a pice of dropped popcorn.
He's my "never know what Mommy might drop today" guy, hangs out in the kitchen with me!

LOL!!! I know what you mean! Hannah's our little Hoover too! ;)
We do our best to not drop things but if we do it's just too bad because little Hoover, I mean Hannah ;), gobbles it up in no time! LOL

I confess, I am a wuss when it comes to a begging dachsie. But, I have gotten a lot better. I keep my indiscretions down to mostly treats. The occasionally get a nibble of human food, but I always make sure that it's nothing bad for them. They like all kinds of fresh fruits and veggies. They're sometimes lucky enough to get meat, but it's always lean... nothing fatty. They're favorite human goody is roast.

The hoover instinct is common in our little companions but one of the best things you can do for your little ones is to make shure the learn the leave it and drop it commnads.

My folks lost their last dachsund after she got a chicken bone stuck in her throat. My mom accidently dropped a chicken breast on the floor and Jo zoomed in on it trying to gobble it down before anyone could take it away from her. She started gagging. I took her outside got her to through up and she was able to breath normailly again. She continued to have some problems drinking and would hardly eat. She wnet in to the vet who diagnosed a chicken bone imbedded in her throat. He didn't feel comfortable taking it any further than the diagnosis and referred my parents to the VTH. The VTH evulated her and said that she was in overall excellent healt for a ten year old and they thought she would survive surgery but there was a very good chance she would always have problems swallowing. My folks decided rather tthan have her face a furture like that to have her put down.

Oh yes it was a cooked chicken breast. I know raw chicken is suppose to be safe but having gone through that I don't think I will ever find myself hading even raw chicken to any of my fur kids. It's tempting when I pull the neck out of a turkey to give the boys a taste but I just can't let myself do that.

I give mine a little taste of everything I eat...so they get stuff every so often. If I'm eating something that's good for them I might give them a little more. I'm very careful with what I give them and how much though. I only wish I could share my favorite food with them...chocolate!! Poor deprived pups ;)

cause they get canned pumpkin and now canned no-salt green beans added to their food, and I give them their heartworm pills in cheese. I would consider adding some other supplementary foods too. But they don't get people food from what we're eating... husband and I agree on that but have to remind his relatives who think we're "so mean to the poor babies!":sarcastic

Well it all depends on what you call human food. My husband and I are Vegans but we give our gods (oops Freudian slip) dogs
very rare chicken mixed with vegetarian kibble.
We don't do dairy so we don't feed them cheese or anything. We give them a little of what we are having like some rice when we're having chinese food (Georgie likes vegetarian sushi rolls) veggies, avocados, popcorn , pretzels (with no salt) apple, - good stuff.

And if there was a contest to see who spoils their dogs the most -We would probably win -
We feed them from the table, We give them treats when they ask (they don't have to beg) they get as much of the couch as they want, they sleep with us and they always go on vacations with us. So what - they're wonderful pups! If it doesn't hurt them, why not!

If the little men are around when I'm eating..they sit and watch with those eyes. They don't beg because they know they will get a little taste when I'm done. They trust me!!! :)

If I'm having something I think that they shouldn't eat - I sneak something good for them to my plate and pretend that was what I was eating.. They haven't caught on yet. :D

We used to give Amos people food while we ate and his begging was just the worst! AND he was getting a large tush from it. It didn't take long for him to understand he wouldn't get treats while we ate anymore.
So we never gave Nugget and Daisy anything. But, then I started eatting a bunch of popcorn in order to give up another habit and now they do get a bite while I have my bowl of it.
And they get a frozen cucumber slice after a walk. It helps to cool them down and is less messy then ice.
We are working towards a raw diet so eventually I guess the answer will be yes! But never while we eat.

Mine get the occasional carrots... Only Faust really likes those, so its not often.

They don't get table scraps, unless its meat juice from grilled meat and veggies or something.... no actual food, but they act like its prime rib. I will occasionally share a bit of meat from a sandwich if I get to the end and they have managed to control themselves and not beg for it... Very rare, that one. *grins* I sometimes "drop" two or three bits of shredded cheese when I'm cooking, or bits of cooked veggies. They used to get the last couple of teaspoons of milk from my cereal if I ate a bowl late at night, but Dino, it turns out, seems to be lactose intolerant, so no more milk. This sounds like a lot, maybe, but all together, they might get ONE of those things once every couple of weeks or so, so its not that much, and its always like a real treat.

The only exception to these is a special thing that Faust and I do together, when we're by ourselves.... If I have ice cream (provided it doesn't have any chocolate in it), we sit together and he gets to taste bits from my spoon. He might get a total of no more than two teaspoons of ice cream all together, but to him its like I'm sharing my ice cream with him. Its something I've done with him since he was a puppy, and something I don't do with the others. He's my special boy.

I'm afraid that mine are spoiled rotten and they know that they will get the last bite of whatever I'm eating. So yes, every single day they get the last bite of every one of my meals.

They are wonderful and don't beg at the table, they go to their spots and lay down and wait until I get up from the table. They know that's the sign for "yippee we're getting a bite!!"

The girls get match stick carrots every night with their kibble, and every Sunday they get a scrambled egg.

Needless to say, they LOVE Sundays, lol. And the carrots make them feel like they are getting more to eat without making them fat little weiners.

Mine get raw carrots, plain fat-free yogurt, no-salt green beans, canned sardines, tuna, and mackeral, eggs (scrambled), solid-pack pumpkin, apple, lettuce, tomato - lots of healthy people food, mostly fruit and vegetables, on occasion, in small amounts. If I have some freezer burned chicken, I poach it, mix it with brown rice and some steamed carrots, and add that to their kibble meals (with less kibble) for a little variety in their meals. I avoid junk food totally, and rarely give them anything processed.

Mina tends to get a piece of fruit or veggie everyday. I always end up dropping a piece when I am chopping up some for my guine pigs. Although there are some leafy greens Mina will play with but not eat.

My babies do not get people food, except for CHEESE! They go CRAZY for it! Especially Rudy, I think he would dance on his hind legs for an hour to get a bite of cheese. Our routine is - right before I leave for work, I get a slice of Kraft American Singles, and each dog gets half of a piece of cheese. They are much less sad when I leave if they get their cheese fix. Its like CRACK to them!! :)

When I first adopted Roxy I was very adament about not giving her "people food" after 4yrs however, I have slacked off a little bit. Every once in a while she may get a little chicken (grilled chicken breast meat, no bones, no skin) and sometimes a little piece of cheese. I did give her a piece of strawberry the other day,she liked that.

Cody gets a teaspoon of plain yogurt on his breakfast kibble and if I have a banana he MIGHT get a little nibble. for treats he gets a carrot stick, and on Sundays when we visit 'grandma' he gets plate scrapings with his **** Zhu cousin of cooked green beans and tidbits of cooked chicken.
We're really careful not to give him too much of anything or anything directly from the table.

but it is mixed in with their kibble and measured, so they are not getting overfed. The human food I give them is grilled chicken breast (no bones) with nothing added (my husband does theirs on the little Panini duet grill before he cooks ours (which has garlic and/or onion on it) so theirs is plain, and the Panini grill has a drip cup, so they aren't getting any grease or fat.
This is cut up and as I said it is mixed and measured so it is part of their intake. The same thing is done for breakfast, they love fresh pears, so I cut one up every morning and measure it in with their kibble and they love it.
They also get flat Italian green beans or carrots measured and mixed in.
They are not allowed to beg, so what they get in their bowl is what they get. Except for an occasional taste of popcorn, when my husband is in the mood, but I monitor the amount they get to have.

GingerSnap gets Peanut butter a couple times a week. She LOVES it, and if I ask if she wants some peanut butter she'll bring me her Kong. Or if she sees me having some. (I like crunchy peanut butter on a spoon, go figure)

She also gets cheese, if I have REAL cheese and not that processed American stuff. Chedder, Swiss, Meunster, I'll tear a little off my slice and give it to her IF she sits nicely for it.

Oh, and BOTH my dogs are crazy for BANANAS!!!! I think the shepherd can even spell it. Heaven forbid I should want to just have a banana for breakfast and not share with them. I'm going to have to start having two. One for me and one to split between the dogs. LOL

This has sure changed since my first post.
We feed some natural kibble "human grade", and mostly organic. But for the most part, they eat whatever we are eating that is good for us-meat, vegies, fruits. The flavorings. Right now, with a new puppy who has been ill, they are eating brown rice, white rice, and chicken, along with some vegies, when his stomach is settled. They love to eat whatever I cook, and it encourages me to cook without salt, just using my herbs. They also love carrots and zucchini, and cucumbers, I steam the vegies I'm supposed to steam, and I can my own grean beans, which they gobble up! I cook without fat as much as possible, so except in the dead of winter, no one has ever been overweight. The vets and the nutritionist all say they are in great shape, so we'll keep doing what we're doing. We don't supplement with the "people food" we mix so the amounts are what they should be eating. We pretty much hold to the 20 minute rule. If they wolf down food (right now with a puppy in the house-in three minutes flat) they get a little more. If there is food after 20 minutes, we take it away.

I voted no not ever. But I was thinking junk human food. I give the puppers pumpkin and sometimes sweet potatoe...They love that...I also want to try green beans/frozen but I haven't bought any yet to try with them. Other then that they don't get any junk...only kibble...and if there are crumbs or anything on the ground that I don't see well then obviously it's fair game...

Mine will often get some of our supper into their dish. I like the idea of cooked potatoes, carrots, peas, and such. It's fresh and full of vitamins. It goes in their dish so there is no begging during dinner. They just colapse in their bed for a post dinner snooze.

Popcorn rarely, but I do love to save popcorn or the above for doing nails. I dremel them 2 or 3 times a week, and that something special sure encourages them to co-operate!

Blueberries, strawberries, watermelon, tomato!! All of these for nails too. When I turn on the dremel, they coming running and they shove to be picked up first. Gotta love that!!! :D

Clarence never gets ANY of our human food - OK, not anything in that style prepared for us!

Most of "our" food, containing too much salt and other spices, which would harm him.

In Early time we gave him some Haribo Gumbear's (not much! 1 piece twice a month or so), but just until we discovered his Beef Allergy. Gumbear's containing lots of beef gelatine.

Since he is feeded raw, he dislikes our food :D Yesterday I gave him half a turkey schnitzel (raw), he ignored it. Well, most of the other raw meat, he gets, contains a bit blood (to stimulate his digestion).

Annie gets a half of one human cupcake on her birthday and perhaps the odd taste of cereal or yogert. We try to keep her on track and keep her from becoming a porker. I think her favorite treat is a piece of cat food, she loves the stuff.

I know it is bad for them but I like to share with them.
Small bits of chicken, popcorn, apples, carrots, beans, watermelon, they love ice cream (vanilla only), maybe a fry or two when we are on a trip, icepops and hotdogs (they get 2 a year, one at the family picnic and the other is at the fair).

Oh yeah and cake 5 times a year, on each weens birthday I get them a small pumpkin or carrot cake and they each get a small slice.

I give my husky healthy food from our stuff. Like if I grill chicken or something. If we have left over biscuits I'll let her have one. So when the doxie comes along I'll give her healthy food too. I'm sure she's gonna love her some grilled chicken! Even my cats eat the grilled chicken if I crumble it up!
