Hi all:
Before Baylea, Jen passed some information to me about a shelter in Florida that permits out of state adoptions.
I have been corresponding with Alma at the Putnam Humane Society. (they are about 50 miles southeast of Jacksonville, Florida)
She is going to put me on their newsletter, Paw Prints, mailing list. Very, very serious about finding homes for their "turn ins".
I mention this because I was having so much trouble looking for a dachsie. She would be a great resource.
If anyone else would like to get on their mailing list, just email me and I will give you her address.
I firmly believe that networking with the "right" people can do a great deal of good.

Here is something that just came across my screen. Haven't had time to check it out yet.
If it turns out to be quality information someone should post it at that terrible forum Jen found. Those people reeeeeely need help. Talk about Dumb and Dummer!
Would love some input about the following if you go to the site.

>>Here is a cool web site to pass along to listeners looking for a pet http://www.dogbreedinfo.com. You put in the breed you are interested in or just adopted and you get a grooming guide, exercise requirements, list of typical health problems to watch for, etc. You can also type in request like "light shedding," "dogs for allergy sufferers," "excellent jogging companions," etc.<<

Will be on for a while then I gotta get some grunge things done around here,
Roxane

This is strange, I'm replying to myself. http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/smile.gif
I had a chance to go to that site, late last evening. Everything looked rather sensible until I went to the information page specifically for Dachshunds.
I was surprised at the standards for size and coats that were posted. I wondered if, regarding the standards for size, they are different in the UK. My reasoning was, there were metric equivalents given, which we do not use. In addition I had never heard anyone call a mini a Toy.
Those of you involved with showing and or breeding please clarify for me.
Really confused,
Roxane

Well i know as to date there is no toy dachshund recognized by the AKC there are serv. breeders (none of which i would buy a dog from) labeling their dogs as toys ... to this date a Miniature is ANYTHING under 11lbs and a standard is 18 to 35 lbs anything in between (we lovingly call tweenies) is either a small standard or large mini. their are 3 coat types in various patterns Smooth (NOT shorthair) Longhair, and wirehair ... there is NO fuzzy dachshund which had come up recently too... Usually they are actually referring to the wires with the more full coat... often termed fuzzy they will require more grooming than a normal wire when they get older but still none the less they are both only wires...LOL (Fuzzy's ...rofl) I can see the adds now ... WANTED Toy Fuzzy purple doxie-poo ...rofl But as of yet roxane there is NO toy ... just a breeders why of getting more money and trying to breed the smallest dachshies possible... sad shame http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/frown.gif

Hi Jen:
Everything you said is what I believed to be true. If you have a chance go to that site. I do not believe they sell dogs. Maybe the thing for _me_ to do is go back and take another look. I may get in touch with the information provider and find some answers that way.
Thanks for coming back, hate talking to myself, really boring! http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/dizzy.gif

Hehehe... poor Roxane http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/frown.gif Yeah i would get in touch with the person who made the page and email them and ask them WHY they have toy listed as a size... is this a person in the US or another country that could be a reason ... maybe other countrys recognize the toy size but the US does NOT! http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/smile.gif

Good Luck
Jen
