put his little restaurant out of business!!
Connie
Since it made the newspaper I'm sure people will think twice about going to that restaurant. Perhaps the owner should take a course in English and brush up on the rules for Guide Dogs.

I'm not usually in favor of solving problems with lawsuits, but in this case I believe it's justified. I know that restaurant and it's large, kind of upscale and in a nice part of the city. Hopefully, they have deep pockets and this guys gets well compensated for that. I also find it hard to believe that the manager of a restaurant in Houston could not communicate in English well enough to understand "seeing eye dog". This is not a restaurant in the barrio, it's a restaurant in a primarily English speaking wealthy part of the city. I think that was just an excuse! JMHO.

How Idiotic can one be????
He knew darn well it was a seeing eye dog, just using that to try to get out of the law suit.
I hope this goes to court and he gets his come upings.

The language barrier/ignorance excuse.... right. No one will have to remind me not to go there the next time I am in Houston!

And how long has this restraunt been open? Claiming not to know the law seems a long streach.

I believe the owner/manager could get fined by the gov. because of the ADA. Which, if I'm not mistaken, states guide dogs or other service animals must be allowed in to a place of business. At least the person can sue the company without much trouble.
There were lots of law suits with a rental company (Hertz I believe) that didn't want to rental to a owner of a service animal, even if his/her friend was going to drive. There also have been suits with airlines requiring the service dogs to be in the hold with the other animals, pretty much giving up the person's right to move about freely.
Basically a service dog/animal must be allowed any where were the public is allowed because of their training. Also, the animals must ware a vest stating that they are a service animal.
As for the law suit, good, it'll be owned by a blind man soon. ;)

It is a stretch, Tom. I've been in this part of Houston since 1987 and it's been there ever since I can remember! Didn't know! Yeah, right!

Language Barrier? Sounds like a big excuse to me.

would be a pleasure to dine with in any fine restaurant.
They are so calm and attentive to their owners.
I would rather they be there than some of the "humans" we get seated next to sometimes.:D
