Mine's a Mini. He's just over 7 lbs at 9 months old. Just curious if there are mostly mini's / tweenies/ standards?

Dudley is almost 5 a red mini who weights 11 1/2 lbs. There are a lot of Doxie's near us, but most of them are overweight. One day a little boy stopped me and said hey lady I have a dog like that only he is really big. (I figured he was a standard that's why he said he was big) later that night we saw him again and he said my Mom wants to know what you feed your dog to keep him so slim. So what he was saying when he said his dog was really big was that he was fat. My husband and I got such a kick out of him he was so cute and serious.

But we have 2 Minis, 1 Tweeny and 2 Standards . . . Wimpy was a mini. :)

Roobyrocks
02-16-2004, 08:19 PM
Rooby & Chloe are mini girls and Lexie's my big ol' tweeny girl. :flower:

Joyce, that little boy reminds me of a little girl in our neighborhood... she stopped us one day during our walk and said, 'we have a dog like that... she's 1/2 dachshund and 1/2 weenie dog!'. :D

Hey- no multiple votes?

Well.... since all three of mine should fall into the "small standard" range (tweenie- silly term!! :D), I'll vote that. But Geisha is a standard at the moment- albeit a full-bodied one!

dutchman
02-16-2004, 10:03 PM
I'm not voting:D Tanner and Dexter are each 11.5# Frank is 18.5# Yes a mixed house :D

Out of my four I have one confirmed mini: Misty at 10.5 pounds at 9.6 years of age.

Merlin at two years is around 14 pounds now, Magic at almost 10 is 13.5 pounds, both tweenies.

Mirri I have no idea at this point, last weight 3 weeks ago she was about 10.5 pounds at 8 months, we have to wait on her as far as my red devil being a mini or tweenie weiner though by her big feet she could be a tweenie!

Baby girl (atrophied) weighs 8 lbs. now and chubby li'l man is 10 lbs. though he was my little runt so he obviously needs to lose a little more. He lost 1/2 lb. on Nutro N/C Lite. It shows, but I can still see his rolls:D

carpet gator

By the technical standards, I have 1 mini and 3 tweenies,
but I really have 3 minis and 1 really skinny tweenie.

Buddy Lee is a true mini at a hair over 9#s.
Gidget is a mini chubby butt at 12.3#'s, but she's still losing.
Molly has gained and filled out, and is currently 12.0#s.
And, Mack is looooooooooooong and lean at 13.7#'s.

Tammara
02-18-2004, 10:06 AM
Our little smooth Trenyce is holding at around 8# at 8 months. She's getting muscular (from fighting with brother) but looks pretty sleek.

Our "fur beast" boy is holding at around 10#, but after a bath, he sure looked smaller! We take him on extra walks to keep him lean, as he's the treat thief. Naturally the big boy is the one who still insists on being held and carried, especially at bedtime.

They were both parented by 6, 7 & 8 pound parents, so we had hoped for teeny ones, but instead got the ones we were meant to have. :D

I want to hold our next one in one arm! Any hope for that? :raz:

Lewis' Mom
02-18-2004, 10:10 AM
My Lewis is not full grown, but he is approximately 5 pds. Still some tim to fill out as he is just shy of four months, and the growing seems to have stalled recently. His poppa was about 9 pds though and a mini.

dutchman
02-18-2004, 11:28 AM
Well Tammara you say you want to hold the next one in one arm best advice for that hit the gym and start pumping some iron:D. on a few very rare times I've found myself trying to hold all three boys at the same time while standing or walking. Lets see that 18.5 + 11.5 +1 11.5 so I guess that makes 41.5 pounds of squirming dachshunds. Tanner and Dexter the 11.5# boys and be one arm carries since they settle right down most of the time. Now long big boy Frank 19.5$ can be balanced on a hip and one armed but he is also the biggest squirmer and even two handed I fear dropping him much of the time.

2 mini - wires (I love that term!)
Merry is about 9lbs and Bart is just a tad over 10 lbs.
They both think they are as big as rottweilers though... as long as they have mama's legs to hide behind!!! :fierce:

Otto'sMom
02-18-2004, 06:03 PM
I was told that Otto was Sumo sized, weighing in at 20 lbs as a mini, but he carries it well and runs like the wind, little ears bouncing in the breeze.
Gert is a mini too, I think weighing in at a hefty 18 lbs. She was just 11 lbs and absolutely anorexic looking when I got her a year ago.
Dolly, my coonhound doxie mix is a stout 35lbs. It's funny when I pick up a dog bigger than she is and they weigh less.

dox-e
02-18-2004, 09:33 PM
Right now Ollie is 7 mos. and just over 8lbs. He should be a mini, but not if he keeps growing at this rate.

FOREVER A DAXIE
02-19-2004, 02:00 PM
I can't believe there aren't more Standards!! I thought it would be 50/50 but Mini's are definitely in the lead with Tweenies next......

loogie
02-24-2004, 03:26 PM
I was going to vote for Standard but once I voted for my mini it wouldn't let me vote again:crying:

I have a standard so that number should be at least 2...

graci67
03-07-2004, 10:26 PM
Graci most likely will be a tweeny when she stops growing. both her parents were 13.5 lbs, and right now shes probably 7 pounds now.

Heide
03-08-2004, 04:38 AM
either, since I have multiples.
I have Kamper who is a large standard at 30 pounds.
Maggie and Natasha are small standards
Benjamin and Ginger and Buddy are mini's

Rudy's mom - MI
03-08-2004, 08:16 AM
Rudy is suppose to be a mini but he is a little over weight at 12.4 at two 1/2 years old. I've started reducing his food and got him an exercize machine (Molly:D ) but I doubt if he will ever be a true mini at 11 lbs.
Molly is a mini at 5.5 lbs. at 3 1/2 months old.;)

onebigmickeyfan
03-17-2004, 07:17 PM
Zeke is a small standard at 21 lbs.

Missy is a tweeny at 16 lbs.

Casey is a moose.;)

Kim H.
03-17-2004, 08:05 PM
I always think of Missy as a little teeny tiny petite thing. Probably cause she has that "innocent little girl thing" going on - like Cassie (who IS tiny, but slightly evil  ).

Meemoo
03-18-2004, 08:45 AM
a moose?

Roobyrocks
03-27-2004, 08:10 AM
Kind of late on this, but I always think of Missy as the same size as Rooby, who's about 11 lbs. I'm surprised everytime I see a picture of her! Missy's more Lexie size, but I'll always think of her as a little girl like my Rooby. :flower:

isobelsmom
03-27-2004, 09:18 AM
Late on this too....Isobel is a tweenie at 12 lbs and lawrence J is also a tweenie at 14 lbs, but I am working on him losing weight. I'm just now seeing a waist on him and he's not happy  as that boy LOVES anything remotely food-like (even with only 6 teeth left in his mouth  )

roxysmom
06-02-2004, 12:43 PM
Roxy is a mini weighin in at 10.5# and almost 7 yrs old(Aug1). I get the comment alot about her weight. In fact when I took her to the vet the said she was the first one they had seen that wasn't overweight. I know a lady who has two standards wires and someone asked her if they were basset hounds.

blueyezz74
06-02-2004, 01:00 PM
Doxies being mistaken as basset hounds??? Yikes!

Harley is 5 mths old and 10 lbs. I'm thinking his end weight will be around 14 lbs. The little bugger is solid too!

rustydaisymom

I voted that I have a standard but it wouldn't let me vote a second time for my mini

Marlene Miller
06-25-2004, 06:51 PM
Millie Vanillie is a 9 lb smooth piebald mini Luvie is a smooth black and tan double dapple mini at 8 lbs Guido is a slightly wiry ,slightly long hair black and tan tweenie at 12 lbs, Neiman Marcus is a smooth chocolate tweenie at 12 lbs Sparky is a smooth black and tan double dapple tweenie at 14 lbs Rose is a smooth dark red tweenie at 14 lbs Frankie is a red smooth tweenie at 15 lbs I think thats it

doxunzX3
06-25-2004, 08:11 PM
All of my blk/tans are standards.
Chewy 28 lbs.
Con Man 20 lbs.
Ivy Ann 20 lbs.

Zor is already 9.3 lbs and only 5 months old. I wanted a mini. But a Tweeny is most likely to end up as.

They are all one big pack of Luv Bug Doxies!!!!! There hearts are all bigger than there bodies are long.:luvlove: :luvlove:

Girrl's mom

López's a Standard and he weighs in at 9 kg, I think that's around 20 lbs.

As I posted earlier today, my mini is now a tweenie...Speck is 12 1/2 pounds at almost 6 months old (he'll be 6 months on July 23rd). He's very healthy looking and muscular - not fat at all. He's just a solid little guy. :D

babajay
07-11-2004, 08:18 AM
I have to watch Cookie now that she's been spayed. She was 10.3 lb at time of surgery. She was the tiniest of her litter at 7 oz, but that doesn't mean she'll stay tiny as an adult. She doesn't like any kind of kibble, canned dog food or the kind in pouches. She likes home cooked/prepared stuff like turkey, marrow bones, scrambled egg, cottage cheese, etc. I'm sure it's my fault for not insisting on kibble when she was first adopted. Barbara

Wow. I was just seeing the responses to this poll. I originally posted this when Charlie was 9 months old. He's almost 1 1/2 year old now and guess what - only 7 1/2 pounds.... I guess he didn't fill out that much! He looks great though. He doesn't really seem so tiny to us.

Cocoa and Me
01-23-2006, 02:31 PM
Well, let me specify. She is ~7 months old and still in the 6lb range...so, I imagine she will be under 11lbs by one years old.

We got Olana thinking she was a standard, but it actually seems like she's more like a tweenie at 15 lbs.

I wanted a mini and my husband wanted a standard, so Olana the surprise tweenie is a nice compromise!

Jenn
01-24-2006, 09:26 AM
Charlie is a year and 5 months and he the last time i took him to the vet (about a month ago) he weighed in at 19.6lbs. The vet told me that he needs to be around 18lbs, so we are working on that. He is a very solid boy and he has been neutered so that is working against us.

Marion
01-24-2006, 09:54 AM
Solo is a tweenie http://www.millan.net/minimations/smileys/heartsmile.gif - at the far end of the spectrum! (:D i.e. 16lbs.)

Julian and Misty are both minis, but I could only also vote once. They are 9 Ibs 8 ozs. and 10 Ibs 1 oz.

Tucker actually should be a tweenie. He's about 19 pounds but the vet said he should be closer to 16, he's actually lost a pound since his last checkup. Buffy is a definite mini. All of 8#'s at nearly 2. Her mom was even smaller. I always thought Tucker was a mini and when I saw Lily, (Buffys mommy) outside, (she belongs to our ex-neighbors) I always thought she was a puppy.

Coco, at almost 6 mos is 8 lbs, and Chanel at 3 mos, is 4.5 lbs. We'll have to wait and see to be sure I guess.

I just took "little" Tito to the vet to be checked because he keeps scratching and biting at his skin - the vet seems to think it's allergies and wants to try Benedryl and if in 2 weeks that does not help to try switching his dog food - anyway - the vet weighed him and at just 6 months he is already 12 pounds 10 ounces..., YIKERS...., he was sold to us as a mini but he is a long big boned boy..., and still growing..., the vet said he will probably get to be 14 or 15 pounds - I'm laughing because I so wanted a little mini but 1 day with Tito and we were all in love with him....,

GingerSnap is currently 13.5 pounds. She had gotten up to almost 15 while she was still growing, and looked good then, but 13.5-14 is better on her. She's all done growing now, at two and a half years old, and our vets all agree that she looks GREAT. (one expected to find a fattie when he looked at her chart, then saw her and said, nope, she's long enough to be nice and thin at that weight)
