Well, I figure this is a "Dachshund Special Event" - at least for Bogie and me :partytim:
If I don't count today, which is already underway, and I don't count Sunday, which is pick-up day - there are only four days left until my new little boy comes home!
More exciting yet... if the breeder agrees that a one day early pick-up is okay - there are only three days left! (I'd like to pick him up on Saturday morning so we have the whole weekend to spend together, before we head to work on Monday).

Just too exciting... above is a pic of Bogie (right) hanging 8 getting a bit to eat - building his strength and stamina for the homecoming I'm sure! I wonder how big he has grown in the last two weeks?

The waiting is so hard! :(
I had to wait about 8 months to get Rover!
I'm sure Bogie will be a great addition to your family, and definitely worth the wait!
We need heaps of photos!

Thanks everyone for being excited with me!
Right now it's 8:30 pm here... but somewhere it's after midnight, which means now there's ONLY three days left tops, two days if I'm lucky! :D
Yippee!! How much fun is this?! :bounce:
It's better than the New Years Eve count down - even with Dick Clark! :circle:

There are now only 36 hours left until I pick up Bogie Boy! Or only 12 if I go by minicooper's time. Counting, counting, counting...
:party2:
Speaking of picking up... it's an hour plus drive back home via very windy mountain roads, any ideas to decrease the chance of car sickness?
My Border Collies always drool terribly and sometimes yak up on their first few car rides - but then they're usually in insulated crates in the back of the truck, so I'm none the worse for the wear. I thought about bringing a driver along so I could hold Bogie on the way home - good idea, not?

Excellent idea. I have held my last 3 family members while someone else drove... great time for bonding!

Oh yes- get a driver! There's nothing like that car ride home with a sweet sleeping puppy on your lap (or a whiney one... in Lynx's case...)
Technically- it's a BAD idea to let a dog ride on your lap in the front seat- airbags are BAD for non-average sized human creatures! But... you CAN'T miss that first cuddle on the way home. Just pick a very safe driver! :D

Well as others have stated airbags are a danger to dogs:). MY boys always ride in airline style kennels. I have a Ford Escort and the rear seat folds down . I put a kennels big enough to hold two boYs in the middle on the folded down seat then run a rope between the two headrest looped through the handle of the kennel to minimize the chace it will move in a panic drive move. If you can't find a driver I would suggest something similar. One less second two less seconds, ...

That gives you the time to bond with the sweetie.
He will love that, as being taken away from his litter mates and all he will be frightened and not know what is going on.
Not much longer now.:bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

I've read somewhere that puppy bond the best with the person that holds them on the lap on the way home. But I would sit in the back sit with him and have a driver. I remember someone here posted a story how a pup hit the dash during sudden breaking and got killed.
We had Sabrina in her Sherpa bag on the way home and she still bonded best with me. Maybe because I feed her?!

My best friend went with me when I went to (just look) at Dudley. One look and he was mine. But she is the only person Dudley ever let in our house without barking. I always said it was because she went with me to get him.

Only about 540 minutes to go - tick, tock, tick, tock.
I can't manage to get to sleep... and counting sheep isn't working either, they just keep turning into little puppers and I'm wide  awake again!
Two of my Border Collies are laying at my feet... wondering. They know something is up, they just can't put their paw on it...

Okay, here's a run down of our fantastic day!
Horses and all other animals are fed and we're heading out the driveway.
http://www.cowdognews.com/Bogie/Leaving.jpg
Very pretty drive, danishes and coffee are gone, but no worries, we're almost there...
http://www.cowdognews.com/Bogie/AlmostThere.jpg
We're here! I started to get out of the truck before we quit rolling - I paused when my husband hollered something protective, then he beat me to the gate! Now I'm thinking it was all a ploy to get to Bogie first!
http://www.cowdognews.com/Bogie/Ranch.jpg
Bogie was waiting... and protesting his entrapment.
http://www.cowdognews.com/Bogie/Ready.jpg
Visited for quite a while, had some coffee, then hit the road. I held Bogie all the way to Ace Hardware, where I set him down on the truck seat next to me (notice the two seat buckles next to him) so I could find my wallet. He was a smash in Ace, but I wouldn't let anyone touch him... for goodness sakes, WHO KNOWS where their hands had been - giggle.
http://www.cowdognews.com/Bogie/BuckleBaby.jpg
Home at last! Here we are going on our first (and successful) potty walk. Bogie had never walked on grass, it was great fun to watch him learn something brand, spanking new - at first he would only put two feet at a time down (one front, one back, then switch!), but it didn't take him long to figure it all out.
http://www.cowdognews.com/Bogie/HomeTurf.jpg
Whew! What a tiring day! Husband and Bogie fast asleep on the couch - husband is tired from racing me to the gate back at the ranch no doubt. And Bogie? Well, puppies just get sleepy dang it!

Thanks so much for sharing our joy and excitement - I'm deliriously happy right now! :circle:
We decided to call the playpen Bogie's home for now. We put potty pads down, then put his crate, food and toys in. Had one "crisis" when he snubbed the foamy bed inside his crate, so I promptly took scissors to the brand new $20.00 foamy bed, cut it flat and put the lamby cover back on - Bogie approved, now he goes in and sleeps like the baby he is.
http://www.cowdognews.com/Bogie/Digs.jpg
Oh, and he is a MINI black and tan piebald wirehair. Never occured to me to ask that specific question, but today while oohing and ahhing over him I mentioned how little he seemed and was told "yes, well, he is a minature dachshund and they are smaller than..." Apparently he will mature to about 8 lbs.
Oh, and so far our potty count is as follows:
Outside on the Grass - 5 :bounce:
Inside the House - 0
I know it won't last, and there will be accidents, but I'm going to brag while the bragging is good - besides, can't possible hurt this ranch house rug, the BC puppies have seen to that!

of how well the picture turned out... being I snapped it this morning in the middle of feeding horses before bugging out to get Bogie. This is my last puppy, Finnigan, pictured here at 6 months old and growing... he's a wonderfully wise pup and already very good at minding sheep.
http://www.cowdognews.com/Bogie/Finnigan.jpg
Have some more dachsie pics to share too, but need to go for a potty walk now, that is Bogie needs to go for a potty walk now, then we'll have to spend some time rolling around on the floor playing. :D
