Finally a decent vet has moved to the island! Thank you heavens! We were so happy to hear a new vet moved here a few weeks ago and now has bought the local vets offices (both of the offices). Our sweet Gaudi injured his back about a month ago jumping off our bed (as I mentioned here before) but as I've said for
years..the vets here were grade D or less. 3 weeks of total crate rest and prednisone hadn't gotten Gaudi back to his usual self.

Today we took him into this new vet and I think this new vet is much better than the ones who have lived here up till now. He really examined Gaudi very thoroughly (no other vet ever had...and we had gone to 4 previous vets...some on another island or in Seattle). He noticed when he turned Gaudi's rear left paw under that Gaudi did not set it upright right away (as he had the other 3 paws). He said that meant something in Gaudi's back was
effecting him still. So he did x-rays and unlike the vet who did them 9 months ago he explained well to us what he saw.....he said that not only was there calcification in 4 discs (the other vet saw that) but 2 are quite narrowed (he called them T-10 to L-1) and he said he would NOT recommend surgery but that this is a chronic thing. He said "he can live with this" and gave him a shot of Depo-medrol which he said will have affect for 6 weeks and
also a prescription to Rimadyl which he said will work better than prednisone. He said Gaudi may need to be on Rimadyl long term. And he said Gaudi's day of 4 mile long walks may be over for good (which is a HUGE drag for me....I hate leaving him home alone when I go out daily).
