This is 100% true.
I had reached the end of the road of "NO HOPE".
Daisy my dachshund had been in excruciating pain 24 hours a day for the last 3 months. While I was
at work my wife, a nurse, reasoned that since there was nothing to lose she would give Daisy a medication she uses occasionally called Vioxx.
She gave Daisy a 25 mg tablet. When I got home
2 hours later Daisy was running around, pain free for the first time in 3 months. The vet said she
had a slipped disc & we followed all the prescribed treatments & medications to no avail.
Daisy now gets a half of a tablet in the AM & PM.
Sometimes she doesn't need any at all. I am the
happiest person & the luckiest person in the world. I just wanted to share this with as many
doxie lovers as I could because it is a miracle
for me & Daisy. We told another doxie owner which
had a similar problem about it & they convinced
their vet to prescribe it for their pet as a last
resort, "no other hope remedy". Their vet was very
reluctant but finally agreed. Their doxie had been
dragging it's hind legs & on the first day of
treatment was able to walk. By 3 days the doxie
was back to normal. I don't what the long term
side effects of this drug are. Some reports say
that it may be harmful to the liver or kidneys
in some humans over time. But if time has run out
anyway for your loved one what is left to lose?
The vet was so amazed with the recovery that she is going to write a paper about it for publication.
I don't know if Vioxx will help with all doxie
back problems & it probably is not a cure.......
but it sure has helped the 2 doxies who got it to
resume a normal pain free life. gary@totcon.com

I am thrilled you have had such success and I cannot wait to go in to work (I work at a vets) and have him do some research on this for me. Buuuuuut, I do have to caution anyone who has such remarkable recovery. If your dog's problem is due to disc problems and IF they have such remarkable lessening of pain, please remember that crate rest is still recommended and control of excessive movement is encouraged for quite some time once the pain is relieved so that the problem is not exacerbated. Return to full activity should be done VERY gradually so that the disc is not permanently displaced.
Again though, I'm glad you posted about this and I will take the info to my boss for research!!!

Mine is not in pain...just can't walk. Is it something I should ask the vet about?

Adequan doesn't help those dogs that are already down. How long has your been paralyzed and how severe is it? Does he/she have bowel and bladder control? Do you have to do that for him/her?

Since September. She currently does not have control. She will withdraw when I pinch her toes. I do her exercises and swim her in the bathtub. I had to stop taking her to accupuncture because of the cost. The Dr. says there's hope because he said she has made a significant improvement since the last time he saw her. Said it just takes time. She is not in pain, is happy, active, alert and healthy. We did not do surgery because of the risk and there'd be no guarantee that she'd walk. and that the medicine treatment works well.
