Adequan Injections

am trying to get information regarding treatment using Adequan.

What have you used it for?

The documents I find it is used for arthritis and not for disk calcification. I understand that arthritis is a secondary problem with Dachshunds and bad backs.

If you have used this treatment please let me know what the situation was (diagnosis) and outcome of the treatment.

I have just come back from the vets with Gem, my mini smooth who hurt her back a few weeks ago. I have asked him to treat her with adequan, but he has not heard of the use in dogs. He has agreed to ring the people who make adequan and if they ok the treatment he is going to start Gem on the injections. Adequan is only licensed for use in horses. There is some info on the dachshund back digest pages about the use and results on dogs.
I have used Adequan before on my horse who had hock problems. He has what is called a bone spavin, which involves the cartilidge. That was four years ago, and he has been sound ever since the treatment. I am willing to try anything for my dachsie. After the results with my horse I am very hopefull for Gem. I will let you know what happens as soon as I hear from my vet.

My vet, and the rescue vets, both use Adequan for back pain in all breeds. If it is going to work, it is a miracle drug in my mind. And if it doesn't work, it does no harm!!

Works on shoulders too used it 11 years ago on my Awful who with another person was being shown she jumped from her cage which was stacked 3 high to a tile floor and dislocated her shoulder she later got a infection in that shoulder.When we got her back she was one sick puppy and we did shots for 9 months plus got rid of the infection with meds.Well Awful is 12 1/2 now has had 2 litters in her life since and also was shown after this.She went Best Opp Sex & Best Vet. in Show at the Badger DC in 2000 at the age of 10 she just stareted to show some authritis in the joint last year.
