Hi everyone. Thank you for all of the support and advice concerning Tucker's back surgery. My sister really appreciated all of the information. We now have another question. It has been about 6 weeks since Tucker's surgery (he had three slipped (ruptured? Still not sure) discs-- fused together, I believe. He does not seem to be in pain, but he still is not walking normally. He seems to have a rather exaggerated "swagger." Tucker's back legs circle out to the sides when he walks. Basically, his back legs look like they slip out to the side with each step. I have known other dachsies who have had surgery, and they seem to walk normally after recovery. Could it have something to do with the location of the discs which were fused? Or does he just need more time to recover?

Glad to hear Tucker is up and about. As far as his legs go it may be too early to say if it is permanent or not. Nerves take a LONG time to repair themselves. Hopefully in time he will have a more normal step but there could be a chance that his damage is permanent. I'm inclined to think that he will improve with time - it has only been six weeks. My paws are crossed!!!!!

Hi sunday,

I'm glad Tucker came through the surgery OK . . . have you asked the surgeon or your vet about the walking problem?
