I just wanted to share how I operate with the furbabies I take in because most are from puppymill/breeder enviroments....I like to refer to my home as a sanctuary instead of a rescue...a place that provides love and protection for furbabies that have been abandoned, rejected, abused, neglected and forgotten. I take in each one with the mindset, they could be here "forever" and if I can't say that, I shouldn't take them in because I want my intentions to stay pure and my only motivation is for the furbaby to have a loving forever home....so to enforce this, there are requirements.
They have to be potty trained before they go anywhere, it is a big challenge with kennel dogs and I will not have them abused, they already have socialization/trust issues and I will not have them boucing back & forth between my home and the new home, because the new owners can't handle the potty issue. People have less patience and understanding with an adult dog, because they think it should "know" to not potty in the house, it's actually more difficult, because marking has become a lifelong instinct behaviour that was never addressed for these kennel dogs....males & females.
So for people who buy puppies from a kennel breeder, should stop and realize how these "reputable breeders" have damaged the parents and futures of these dogs, when or if they ever get retired from breeding, then they have all sorts of issues & behaviours that the "normal" pet loving population does not want to deal with....so when or if they do get adopted, they are high risk for abuse or rejection for the behaviours they have developed because of human actions/greed of these breeders and their future is once again very dim....it's a vicious cycle. Good intentions, having the funds to afford a dog, nice house, nice yard cannot prepare people for the challenge these kennel dogs can have....potty training being number one why they are returned or end up in a shelter.
Everyday I pray for more people to rescue, like many on here and I pray for the ones who already do rescue...that God give them the strength to continue even in the darkest hours and to bless them for their committment, devotion and passion. When God has given you a path and you trust in that....even though it's hard work....heartbreaking at times....and you see things you never wanted to see, because turning a blind eye can be blissful, but to God it's selfish....you continue the path because there is more love and so many blessings.
Rescue is not everyone's path or calling....God has a path for everyone in all areas of life and you can recognize it by the "passion" you have for it....it's not forced just natural....and it will always benefit others in some way.![]()
