For those with more than one doxie...

This is random, thus it is in this forum, but I am just curious...

Those of you who have more than one doxie, how long did it take you, after getting your first doxie, to get a second (third, fourth, etc)?

I know many of you have other breeds and other pets, but I'm kinda looking for those who just fell in love with the doxie and couldn't help but want to get another. Or maybe you realized you couldn't afford more than one, or just can't have more than one for whatever reason, so you don't have more than one...but wish you did .

I currently have one...just got him about 6 weeks ago. He's my first doxie and my first dog in about 3 years. I grew up with dogs (never doxies) my whole life though, having an average of 5 at a time. I'm really wanting another doxie, but of course the fiance won't let me have another one! Phooey...

But maybe I can sneak one in one day...I'd love for my pup to have a friend .

I got Riley on May 25, 2009. I am getting my second at the end of March, 2010. So a little less than 1 year!! I completely fell in love with doxies! I did think, for a second, about getting another breed, and if so, which one....and I couldn't decide. lol I really like pugs, but they shed too much.... and I really didn't want to get a puppy right now...so when I found Mollie (who is 16 months right now), I thought she was perfect! Plus she is a pie, and I've always wanted either a pie or a dapple!!

4 years. I adopted Roxy in 2002 and 4yrs later I adopted Bailey. I was worried that because she fit in so well that getting another one would be tempting fate. Then I met Bailey and it was love at first sight. He fit in well too, he lets Roxy be the boss so she is happy and he could care less. He LOVES everyone, adults, kids, dogs, cats (they're fun to chase). The timing just has to be right and you'll know when it is.

It was years. I wasn't interested in a 2nd one. It was getting Engli that changed things for me.
Is there a meet up close to you that you could join? It's always fun to enjoy a gang of doxies and fun for Ripley too.

I have never had a small dog before. I looked at the different breeds. Some friends had a doxie. He came up and snuggled in my lap. That kind of did it. Then I found Lola on Craig's list. Got her. That was the best thing I have ever done. I let her have a litter of pups. Three pups, one died. So my daughter took one and I sold the other to this woman. I wish I would have kept him..... Hind sight.... Then, I saw Bocce in his litter. A mini longhaired pie bald. So I put a deposit down on him. Lola was 3 years old. Now Lola is 4 and Bocce is 1. It's great, I love having two. However, I don't know that I would want more than two. We have a large dog also. A german wirehaired pointer. And two parrots and a canary and a parakeet. So, I think that's enough to take care of!!!! I have them both in my lap right now as I type. Cuddle bugs!!!!

I got Austin around Easter of 2005, George I got March of 2009 so almost 4yrs exactly. However after saying that 2005-2006 I was still in school of which Austin spent a lot of time back at my parents house w/ their mini dachshund Aj, then we lived in Deltona w/ my uncle for 3 months where he was in a pack of 6-7 at the time, then back with Aj until 2008 when I moved to FL on my own. I had him for about a year by himself before I considered getting another. It wasn't that I didn't want him to have a friend, it was that my finances couldn't handle a 2nd one right away.

George has been here 11 months yet it feels like he has been here forever. I wouldn't have changed anything if I could have.

I know I probably need to wait on getting another, but I know I could handle it if I decided to get another right away. I'd definitely go with a rescue the second go-round, and I really don't want to get another reallly young puppy like Ripley was/still kinda is. I love a pup, but they sure are a handful!

I would love to be able to find a group around me...though I havne't looked, so there must be one within a somewhat short distance from me.

Mypuplola...love your two pups, so beautiful! I would more than likely never want more than two doxies at a time...that pack mentality kicks in after two! But I think it would be so nice for Ripley to have someone he can rough house with. He chases the cats but they of course don't want to play, and then he plays with me and my fiance too but we can only do so much. I just feel like he needs another small dog around. He's enjoyed the few times he's been around dogs before, but usually they were too big and would play too rough so I couldn't let him have fun.

One day soon enough though he's going to have a friend...there's no holding me back

my first dachsie passed before he was 2 (genetic), the breeder graciously offered me a 'replacement'
I picked him in Apr 2007, second addition in Nov 2007, bought 3rd in Dec 2007 arrived in Feb 2008 and the fourth came in Oct 2008. So..within 18 months, I had 4.

That is how I feel about Riley. He doesn't even have cats to try to play with! He lives in an apartment with me and my roommate...and like you said, we can only play with him so much! I've always wanted two eventually...and I said...why not now!! lol

I'm about to say 'why not now' and I've only had this little guy for almost 6 weeks! When I want something, I tend to get it...even if I regret it afterwards. And I know I couldn't regret another dog, but I would probably have wished I waited! I've been searching for a rescue though, so I suppose if I fall upon one that I can't resist, I'll have to consider him/her. Hopefully it'll be after my wedding though...I really need to wait until then! 4 more months!

We got Tucker in late August of 2006 as a 10 1/2 week old pup. Then we added Teegan in March of 2009. He was 6 months old when we got him. Tucker was about 2 when I started seriously looking for another one. It took 6+ months to find what I hoped would be a good match for Tucker...........and it worked! I think you have to know your dog's personality, tolerance level, behaviors, etc. For Tucker, a new puppy, puppy wouldn't have been a good idea, I don't think. He is soooooo laid back and puppies can be sooooooo high energy. But, with a little older pup, they get along very well. I would get a 3rd in a heartbeat; but, I've been out voted by the person who brings home the paycheck- so, I don't see that happening.

I only have Charlie now and have had him since he was 8 weeks and he is now 5 1/2 years old. I have toyed with the notion over and over again but right now my finances will not let me. I feel llike Charlie would be happy with a sibling to play with and if I did get another one it would be one around his age or older for he is so laid back. If I only had a house with 5 acres and a million dollars and I could have my dream weiner farm! Not farm as in reproduce but as in a rescue weiner farm!
I'm Jenn aka adoxownsme and Charlie is my standard smoothie black n tan handsome little man!!
His birthdate is 8/29/04 and mine is the day before his, 29 years earlier though.

When I moved in with my now Hubby he wanted a red male, I found a Black & Tan female. She was our only child for 2 years until my sister called and said one of her friends wanted to give Anne away, he said no she came home. After we lost Tinker I told Tom I wanted a black & Tan male we lost Tinker on Thursday and we adopter Bossco on Sunday. I would love to have #3 but he keeps telling me no! Someday!
